SIERRA MADRE MIDDLE SCHOOL
ALUMNI NICK YIAKOUMATOS GOES TO
GRAMMY CAMP.
At age 15, Yiakoumatos stands out as an
ultra-talented singer/rapper, songwrit-er
and producer. With a fascinating, constantly
evolving sound, innovative flows,
and memorable hooks, he captivates listeners
from the first note. His productions
are powerful invigorating tonics infused
with elements of hip hop, trap, pop,
R&B, soul, funk and jazz. He is featured
in music blogs such as Freim TV, Music
Reload and Frequenze Musicali.
He began learning guitar at age 4. At age
5 he started playing keys, writing music
and lyrics, and performing weekly live
at a local open mic. He has already built
an impressive discography of 8 compelling
singles. These include “My Problem”,
which highlights the need to embrace
change to overcome life challenges, “Hey
Oh”, which reflects on the challenges
faced by young musicians trying to break
into the music industry, and “On My
Side”, an upbeat pop rap banger.
Nick and his family moved to Sierra
Madre from Massachusetts in 2019, driving
cross country to support his acting
and music career.He attended Sierra
Madre Middle School, where he was a
6th grader.
At Sierra Madre Middle, he played viola
in the Orchestra and was a highest honors
student. He also was part of the Volunteer Club and has been putting many diverse hours
of volunteer work in since then. One of his favorites was at Kensington, working with Moment
2 Connect, to support the elders living there.
He also has volunteered at Pasadena Humane Society since then, and Harambee Ministries,
where he teaches music to kids under the supervision of Courtney Linsey, Program Director.
Nick now lives in San Gabriel and attends Temple City High School as an incoming Sophomore.
He is playing his original music at the school, and locally. He’ll be playing Blossom Music
Hall in September. He just performed in Greece where we have a home on the island of
Kefallonia.
His original music began when he was 5 years old, on keys and guitar. He then progressed to
a DAW (computer). He incorporates live instruments into his music. His 9th single, “How
You Get”, a moody, vibey song, releases tomorrow on all music platforms.
He was accepted into Songwriting track at Grammy Camp in his first year of eligibility, compet-
ing for a spot with the best and brightest high school songwriters across the country.
There are about 11 songwriters in his cohort.
Grammy Camp, the Grammy Museum’s program for U.S. high school students interested in
learning more about careers in the music industry, is expanding from five to seven days this
year. The camp will be held from Sunday, July 16, to Saturday, July 22, at USC’s Ronald Tutor
Cam-pus Center.
