The sunny crispness of winter is my favorite time of year, and the season of gratitude lingers as I enjoy a bright and sparkling Sierra Madre after the rain this week. What I am particularly thankful for is the community spirit that was on full display during the holiday season. We started with a wildly successful Winterfest thanks to our Chamber of Commerce and ended with the Queen’s Trophy in reward of the thousands of hours spent creating the Sierra Madre Rose Float Association’s 2023 Rose Parade entry. In between, we enjoyed many festive events and the holiday decorations and tree and menorah lighting ceremonies, all provided by dedicated local volunteers. If you are similarly grateful for all of these Sierra Madre festivities (and the many others throughout the year), please consider joining the best community of volunteers. There were many volunteer opportunities listed in last week’s edition of this newspaper and the City will have openings on its commissions later this year. Preservation of this community spirit by maintaining and enhancing the City’s programming, upgrading City facilities and infrastructure, and encouraging stronger partnerships with our business and school communities are my (mayoral) New Year’s resolutions. We already are full-steam ahead on many projects turning these resolutions into reality. Our Sierra Madre Library improvement project has reached a new phase with the opening of the temporary library on Monday, January 8th. The Sierra Vista Park playground is being replaced and new exercise equipment is being installed. We have two water main replacement projects planned for this year, as well as street improvements. There also will be exciting happenings in our downtown and in partnership with our schools and YMCA – watch this space for news of those! All of these goals are a continuation of the priorities set by many past City Councils and conceived and implemented by dedicated City staff. I am proud and excited to have the opportunity to build upon the strong foundation we have laid and to contribute to the small town we all love. ~ Mayor Kelly Kriebs Eileen Benson626.278.0187CalRE# 01880650Barbara Rogers626.484.8135CalRE# 01169115Not intended as a solicitation if your property is already listed by another broker.
