Day Closures
& Reminders
South Pasadena to Host
Memorial Day Ceremony
Pasadena residents and
businesses are reminded
that City Hall and many City
services and administrative
business offices will be closed
on Monday in observance of
Memorial Day, a national day
of remembrance for the brave
men and women of the U.S.
military who died in the line
of duty. Specific closures and
exceptions are noted below.
City Council will not meet
on Monday. The next council
meeting will be held on
Monday, June 8.
The City of Pasadena will
have trash collection on
Monday. There will be no
delay to trash, recycling
and yard waste collection;
however, bulky item pickups
will not be available.
The City Service Center
(CSC) will be closed on
Monday and will reopen at 8
a.m. on Tuesday.
Pasadena Water and Power
(PWP) will also be closed.
Residents and businesses with
any power emergencies should
call the Power Emergency
Line at (626) 744-4673. For
water-related emergencies,
call the Water Emergency
Line at (626) 744-4138. PWP’s
regular Customer Call Center
will be closed for the holiday,
but customers can access their
accounts and pay bills online
at PWPweb.com or by calling
(626)744-4005.
The City’s Municipal Services
Payment Center and Parking
Office will be closed on
Monday. All parking meters
not posted as a “No Parking”
zone will be free and time
limits will not be enforced.
Violations for overnight
parking, red curb parking, “No
Parking” zones, and blocking
fire hydrants will be enforced.
All regular enforcement will
resume on Tuesday.
The Permit Center will also be
closed on Monday; however,
many services will be available
via Permit Center Online,
where you can obtain subtrade
permits and submit plans
for new construction, tenant
improvements, accessory
dwelling units, and additions.
The Permit Center will reopen
at 10 a.m. on Tuesday.
Pasadena Transit Route 33
will run a Sunday schedule on
Monday. All other routes and
Dial-A-Ride Service will not
run on Memorial Day.
All Pasadena Public Libraries
will be closed on Sunday and
Monday and will reopen at 10
a.m. on Tuesday, May 26.
Pasadena Police and Fire
Departments will continue
to be staffed for all patrol,
jail, fire, paramedic and other
emergency services. For life-
threatening emergencies, dial
9-1-1. If you see something,
say something; report
suspicious activity to the
police department at (626)
744-4241.
All recreation and
community centers operated
by the City’s Parks, Recreation
and Community Services
Department will be closed
on Monday but all parks will
be open for picnics, fun, and
play for anyone on a first-
come, first-served basis. No
site reservations are being
accepted for the holiday.
The City of South Pasadena
invites the community to
attend its annual Memorial
Day Ceremony on Monday
at 9:00 a.m. at the War
Memorial Building.
The ceremony will bring
together residents, local
leaders, veterans, and
community partners to
honor and remember the
brave men and women who
made the ultimate sacrifice in
service to the United States.
The program will include
welcome remarks from
Mayor Sheila Rossi, a color
guard presentation by Boy
Scouts Troop 333, and a
performance of the National
Anthem by South Pasadena
resident AwenRose Miller.
Local dignitaries will also be
recognized and provide brief
remarks.
This year’s keynote speaker
will be Don Oliva, a United
States Navy veteran who
served in Naval Aviation,
specializing in the
maintenance and mission
readiness of F/A-18 Super
Hornets. Oliva currently
serves as President of the
Pasadena City College
Veterans Club, where he
continues to support fellow
veterans and their families
through his work with the
Veterans Resource Center.
Following the ceremony,
attendees are invited to enjoy
refreshments in the lobby,
view the Legion Room,
and listen to live bagpipe
music performed by Megan
Kenney.
The event is free and open to
the public.

Tournament Foundation 2026 Grant Awards
Pasadena Tournament of
Roses Foundation members
announced Wednesday that
they have awarded more
than $200,000 in grants to 18
organizations serving the greater
Pasadena area.
According to officials, the grants
support programs in education,
sports and recreation, and the
visual and performing arts –
benefitting people of all ages in
the community.
Grants were made possible
through the Foundation’s
fundraising efforts, including the
2025 Golf Classic presented by
J.P. Morgan Chase & Co., which
raised more than $140,000.
Since its inception, the
Foundation has awarded nearly
300 grants to invest in people
through sustainable programs.
This year, one $35,000 grant
and one $20,000 grant were
awarded, in addition to 16 other
community initiatives that
received grants of up to $10,000.
$35,000 grant –Since 1986,
the San Gabriel Educational
Foundation has worked closely
with district leaders, community
members, educators, and
parents to provide supplemental
resources and innovative
programming that promote
academic achievement, wellness,
and creativity across all TK–12
campuses. The grant will support
the SGUSD TK-12 Library
Modernization & Literacy
Equity Initiative, which will
address aging collections and
limited access across SGUSD
schools, ensuring students have
access to accurate, current,
and representative information
reflecting the world they are
entering.
$20,000 grant – The Monrovia
Wildcat Band Boosters support
and sustain the Monrovia High
School Musical Arts Program
by providing equitable access
to music and performing arts
education. The grant will support
100+ high school students and
invited 7th–8th grade Clifton
Middle School participants in
band, color guard, orchestra,
choir, and drumline through
uniforms,instruments,
equipment, transportation,
and competition fees.
Activities include rehearsals,
performances, and competitions
at Monrovia High School and
venues throughout Southern
California.

members to an interactive
Open House on Thursday
from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at the
Jackie Robinson Community
Center.
Attendees can move
through multiple themed
stations to speak directly
with PWP staff and learn
about key topics, including
the new solar and battery
storage rebate program, how
to understand their PWP bill,
current and upcoming rates,
infrastructure priorities,
water conservation and
energy-efficiency incentives,
and how PWP ensures
reliable water and energy
services for Pasadena. Guests
will also have an opportunity
to connect with PWP

Reyes. The event is designed
as a flexible, drop-in-anytime
format, allowing visitors to

Remembrance Event
City officials announced that the
public is invited to join the City
of Pasadena and the Pasadena
Veterans Day Committee at
the Pasadena Memorial Day
Remembrance on Monday, 10:30
a.m., at Memorial Park, 85 E.
Holly St.
According to a statement, in this
historic 251st year of the United
States military and the 250th
anniversary year of the Nation
following the signing of the
Declaration of Independence,
this year’s Memorial Day
Remembrance will hold special
significance as the community
honors the men and women who
gave their lives in service to the
country over the past 251 years.
The ceremony will also recognize
by name the 320 members of the
Pasadena community who made
the ultimate sacrifice during
World War I, World War II, the
Korean War, the Vietnam War,
and the War on Terror.
The Remembrance will include
the Condor Squadron Missing
Man Formation Flyover,
military funeral honors with a
flag presentation to a Gold Star
family, and a 21-gun salute by
the 2nd Battalion, 23rd Marine
Regiment. Cadets from the
U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps
(USNSCC) Pasadena Division
and the Blair High School Army
Junior Reserve Officers’ Training
Corps (JROTC) will also assist
with the ceremony.
This year’s keynote speaker
is Lt. Colonel Steven Uziel,
Inspector-Instructor for the 2nd
Battalion, 23rd Marine Regiment
since 2025. The Invocation and
Benediction will be delivered by
Chaplain Ted Saraf, Chaplain of
American Legion Post 13.
