On June 23, 2026, the City Council of the City of Sierra
Madre approved the second reading of Ordinance No.
1495 adopting the City of Sierra Madre Objective
Design Standards and amending Title 17 (Zoning) of
the Sierra Madre Municipal Code to incorporate the
standards by reference. The Planning Commission
conducted a duly noticed hearing on the matter and
forwarded its recommendation of approval to the CityCouncil on June 4, 2026.

Several state housing laws, including SB 167, SB
423, SB 330, SB 4, and AB 2011, strongly incentivize
cities to develop objective design standards for
multifamily residential uses and mixed (residential
and commercial) uses. By adopting Objective Design
Standards, the City of Sierra Madre maintains the
ability to impose design standards on multifamily
residential and mixed-use developments. These
Objective Design Standards are intended to
streamline the approval process for housing units
while maintaining good design.

This summary is published pursuant to Government
Code Section 36933(c)(1) and a full and complete
certified copy of the text of Ordinance No. 1495 is
available at the Sierra Madre City Manager’s Office
located at City of Sierra Madre City Hall, 232 W. Sierra
Madre Blvd., Sierra Madre, CA. Under Ordinance
No. 1495, the City of Sierra Madre Objective Design
Standards becomes effective and enforceable on
July 23, 2026. The Planning and CommunityPreservation Department maintains an official copy
of the Sierra Madre Objective Design Standards,
as may be amended, on the City Website at https://
www.sierramadreca.gov/building-planning/. For
further information on this subject, please contact the
Planning and Community Preservation Department
at (626) 355-7138.

ENVIRONMENTAL DETERMINATION: This
project is exempt from the California Environmental
Quality Act pursuant to CEQA Guidelines Section
15061(b)(3) because there is no possibility that the
proposed project could have a significant impact on
the environment. The project itself does not allow
construction of any building or structure but sets forth
design regulations that shall be followed. Therefore, it
can be seen with certainty that there is no possibility
that the project may have a significant effect on the
environment and thus is not subject to CEQA review.

A SIERRA MADRE TRADITION:

CELEBRATING AMERICA'S
BIRTHDAY

occasion than right here in Sierra Madre.

As a lifelong Sierra Madre resident, my heart swells
with gratitude every Fourth of July. This holidayhas always meant far more than fireworks, it is a celebration of the values that unite us as
Americans: liberty, service, resilience, and pride.

This year is especially meaningful as the United States welcomes visitors from around the
world for the FIFA World Cup. While millions experience our nation and its rich diversity,
I am especially proud that Sierra Madre reflects the very best of America, a welcominghometown where neighbors become lifelong friends, volunteers give generously, and
traditions are passed from one generation to the next.

The festivities begin on July 3 with our party in the Memorial Park. Come enjoy the Beer
Garden, live music from Groovy Pie, games and food trucks. It’s the perfect way to gather
with family and friends while kicking off one of Sierra Madre’s special weekend.

Then comes the Fourth of July Parade—the moment I’ve looked forward to every summer
for as long as I can remember. For more than 50 years, I’ve been part of this wonderful
Sierra Madre tradition. As a little girl, my mom would help us fill water balloons early
and I proudly rode on the fire engine with my dad, waving to familiar faces lining the
streets. Those memories sparked a lifelong love of public service and this remarkable
community.

Today, it is an incredible honor to continue that tradition by riding in the parade as
your Mayor. Watching families gather, children proudly wave their flags, and generations
celebrate together reminds me that Sierra Madre isn’t just where we live—it’s home..

As we celebrate our nation’s 250th birthday, may we honor those who secured our
freedoms, cherish the blessings we enjoy today, and inspire future generations to preserve
the ideals that make our country strong.

From my family to yours, I wish you a safe, joyful, and memorable Fourth of July.

Happy Independence Day, and God Bless America!
