TWOHEY’S RESTAURANT IN SOUTH PASADENA (PRONOUNCED 2 EES)

 HAPPY NATIONAL ROOTBEER FLOAT DAY

I sat down with a local restaurant manager, and he asked me “what’s happening
in the local restaurant scene?” Well, did you know that Pasadena is right behind
San Francisco for the number of restaurants per capita? It makes me wonder why
anyone would open a new restaurant with all that competition, but I know the
answer: everyone thinks they can do it better. My friend, Tanya, owns Twohey’s
restaurant in South Pasadena (formerly in Alhambra) and she is one of the lucky
ones. Her restaurant is thriving - in fact last Sunday we waited 30 minutes for
a table before opting to sit at the bar. It wasn’t a bad way to spend the Sunday
morning. Twohey’s is a diner/family restaurant that serves breakfast, lunch, and
dinner.

What to order? That’s tough, I really like everything! If you are a morning person,
try the French toast (one of my favorites). Since it was brunch time, I ordered the
onion rings off the lunch menu. The beer was so cold that it comes in a frosted mug. Don’t believe me?
Go to my Facebook page to see (yes, I had a beer at 11AM - those three-mile Rose Bowl runs make it ok!!)

If your passion is for a lunchtime meal, I do recommend the burgers (yes, the Stinko burger is alive and
well here at Twohey’s!), and don’t let me forget the ice cream specialties, one Sundae please, plus for you
teetotalers, I recommend the Root Beer Float. Dinner is awesome too, short ribs and roasted turkey - indeed,
a little of something for everyone. Tanya tells me next time try the fried chicken feast (will do!) or
maybe the all-you-can-eat ribs. Geez, just writing about Twohey’s is making me hungry again! The only
misstep is the TwoHey’s Martini, I’ve tried it twice now and neither bartender can quite get it right.

I’d better stop here; my belly is getting exhausted!

Check out their web page at www.twoheys .com for hours and prices. Bargain Note: Happy Hour is from
3 to 6 PM

LETTER TO THE EDITOR

RE: Colin Walker, Missing Hiker

Long, for over two decades, did I and a small group of subtitlers have the honor and
privilege to work with Colin Walker, and deeply did we admire, respect and enjoy
Colin’s kindness, his generosity of spirit, his intelligence.

Devastating is the loss of our sanguine, affable, fun-loving, hard-working friend and
colleague, also a loving husband, a devoted father, a dedicated brother.

On Saturday, July 15, 2023, at 6:23 a.m., according to the Ring camera of a neighboring
house, Colin departed from the Clamshell Canyon trailhead above Monrovia,
never to return alive, and it would be until Tuesday, July 25, 2023, that his body was
found by Sierra Madre Search and Rescue.

The search which was undertaken to find Colin and bring Colin home was startlingly
paramount.

According to the Sierra Madre Search and Rescue Facebook page, in addition to the
Sierra Madre Search and Rescue team, these are the additional teams which helped
to bring Colin home:

• Altadena Mountain Rescue

• Antelope Valley Search and Rescue

• California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (OES)

• California Rescue Dogs Association (CARDA)

• California Search and Rescue

• China Lake Mountain Rescue Group

• Kern County Search and Rescue

• LASD Emergency Services Detail/Aero Bureau (Air5)

• LASD Mounted Search and Rescue

• LASD Reserve Forces Detail

• Los Angeles County Fire Department - Air Operations

• Malibu Search and Rescue

• Marin County Search and Rescue

• Montrose Search and Rescue

• Orange County Mountain Rescue

• Rim of the World Search and Rescue

• Riverside Mountain Rescue Unit

• San Bernardino Cave Rescue Team

• San Bernardino Mountain Search and Rescue

• San Diego Mountain Rescue

• San Diego Search and Rescue

• San Dimas Mountain Rescue

• San Gorgonio Search and Rescue

• San Luis Obispo Search and Rescue

• Santa Barbara Search and Rescue

• Santa Clarita Valley Search and Rescue

• Upper Ojai Search and Rescue

• Ventura County Sheriff Aviation Unit

• Ventura East Valley Search and Rescue

In the search for Colin, to the people who represent every footstep that was hiked,
every search dog that was followed, every horse and ATV that were ridden, every
helicopter, drone and airplane that were flown, every coordination effort that was
undertaken, down to the very person from Sierra Madre Search and Rescue with a
medical boot on her foot at the Sierra Madre Search and Rescue facility who was
there to help in whatever way she could save being out in the field, all of you contributed
to resolving the seemingly impossible task of finding Colin in the backcountry.

To each and every one of these people, who donated their time and effort and life,
and in such extreme heat, all for a person you had never met, I do express my utmost
gratitude, especially to everyone at the Sierra Madre Search and Rescue who are the
epitome of compassion, understanding, patience, professionalism.

You all are the salt of the earth. You are kindness personified. You inspire hope in
humanity. You found Colin.

From Liz DeKam, Sierra Madre, long-time colleague and friend of Colin Walker’s

SOUTH PASADENA YARD SALE

Summer Yard Sale Will Benefit South Pas Tournament of Roses Float

South Pasadena, CA, July 26, 2023 — A two-day yard sale will be held Friday Aug. 11 and Saturday Aug.
12 at the War Memorial Building to raise funds for South Pasadena’s iconic self-built float. Items are
needed for the sale and can be donated at the site three days prior.

More than $140,000 must be raised in order for the South Pas float to ride down Colorado Boulevard in
the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade Jan. 1. Funds pay for flowers, steel and supplies while all labor
is volunteer. The float committee previously held a yard sale in May and a golf tournament in June as part
of the year-long fundraising effort.

Steve Fillingham, South Pasadena Tournament of Roses Committee member and yard sale coordinator,
said, “This second yard sale will give the community an additional opportunity to donate to the cause and
to find many hidden treasures at bargain prices.”

On both days, Friday, Aug. 11, and Saturday Aug. 12, the sale will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The War
Memorial Building is at 435 Fair Oaks Ave. Parking is available in the building’s parking lot and on Fair
Oaks Avenue.

A shopper at the May Yard Sale to benefit the South Pasadena float surveys a display of framed art for sale. The
upcoming sale will be held Aug. 11 and 12 at the War Memorial Bldg., 435 Fair Oaks Ave., South Pasadena.
