TABLE FOR TWO

By Peter Dills

My Monday Night
Football Round Up

2010

Hello, Football fans, and arm chair quarterbacks. It is that time of year; time to point you
to the best spots to watch football in The San Gabriel Valley. A place where you can get a
decent beer and some grub that won’t keep you up all night. Recently I went to Clearman’s
Boat on The Pasadena/San Gabriel Border. I liked it!! It’s a new building with 30 Large
screen TV’s to catch any game. The place resembles an old German Beer Hall, so there are
plenty of places to sit and you will always have a great view of one of the many TV’s. The Bar
features 10 beers on tap and mixed drinks. The food is acceptable and not gourmet. I usually
stick with their great cheese bread and renown salad.

McCormick and Schmick’s in Pasadena, has been written up numerous times over the
years for their amazing happy hour selections and basement prices. I have noticed that their
($1.99) specials have been reduced, but there are always ample beer specials and they have
upgraded their TV’s to make the sports experience a touchdown.

A place that might not come to your mind but offers fantastic food and a good viewing
experience is Il Fornaio. The Bar has its own TV and they do offer a ($5) menu with
flatbread, salads and Chicken wings that will bring you right back to college days. It is not
a place for a big football crowd, but if you just want to watch the game with a small crowd,
checkout Il Fornaio.

Pasadena’s number one destination for the sport enthusiast is The Yard House. With
over 130 beers on tap and what I would consider above average pub grub, you can relax,
drink and nibble. During the game there are many full
portion appetizers at ••• price, plus deals on pints of beer;
house martinis and wines are also specially priced. This is
a true indoor tailgate experience. I typically sit at the Island
shaped bar.

Newly added to Pasadena is T Boyles. Remember the
old Toe’s Tavern? They are doing it a little different than
everyone else and I love their approach!! They will be
doing BBQ Buffet for Monday Night Football. The Chef
at La Canada Country Club, Bryon, will be smoking ribs,
basting wings, sealing flavor in the briskets, and spinning
up a mean Mac and Cheese. Byron’s exceptional talents and
savory foods are certain to become a local favorite. I am told
that the price will be ($15.00) per head. They will also be
offering drink specials along with some fun giveaways.

See everyone at the upcoming Taste of Sierra Madre, this
coming weekend September 11 at the Kersting Ct.
