End of Summer Edition

A HUGE thank you to all the great musicians who played at my 
birthday bash last month, and also to all of you who attended - 
I hope you had as much fun as I did! And my sincere apologies 
to Tony at the Buc and Kevin at 322 for taking most of their 
customers away that night! Stay tuned to the Music News for 
more fun events coming up at the American Legion. OK - I hope 
I didn't miss anyone or anything... I'm sort of out of practice!

Kiwanis Pancake 
Feast on Sept. 25

The Sierra Madre Kiwanis Club’s annual Pancake Breakfast 
fundraiser will happen on Saturday, Sept. 25 in Memorial 
Park. The breakfast will feature delicious pancakes, 
succulent sausage, healthy OJ, and lots of wide-awake 
coffee! Breakfast will be served from 7 to 11 am.

Kiwanis President Susan Henderson remarked “This 
fundraiser will help pay for Sierra Madre’s “Emergency 
Alert” AM radio station. It’s our major service projects for 
2010, and it will benefit all Sierra Madre residents in the 
event of an earthquake, fire, flood or other emergency.”

Tickets cost $5 each, and are available from any Kiwanis 
member or from many local merchants who will have 
tickets for sale. Just look for the “Pancake poster” in their 
windows. Tickets may also be purchased at the event that 
morning.

Sept 12, The Shadow, Two Radio Plays presented by Route 
66 Radio Theatre

Through the kind permission of Conde Nast, The Route 66 
Radio Theatre Players, directed by Russ Bundy, perform two 
1930s episodes of The Shadow. The performances are true 
to the original scripts, including the original commercials.

Sept 19, 7pm Voombodian Women fron Outer Space by 
Barry Schwam Staged Reading

An army of conquering Amazonian women from the 
planet Voombodia, invade the earth in search of male

or the human race as we now know it will cease to exist.

An enchanting musical about the life of America’s

October 24, 7:30pm War of the Worlds radio play directed 
by Bill Martyn

You are in the studio as this exact rendition of the original 
October 30, 1938 Orson Wells radio broadcast captures the 
horror that set off panic across the nation. 

 

November 7, 7pm Tin Pan Alley Years by Julia Riva

Three-time Academy Award winner Harry Warren got his 
musical start in Tin Pan Alley in the early 1900s. Julia Riva, 
Harry’s granddaughter, wrote and stars in this memoir of 
those early days. Join Harry, Julia, and the Theatres of 
Vision Gang as they sing and dance some of Harry’s Tin 
Pan Alley hits like “I Found a Million Dollar Baby,” “You’re 
My Everything,” “This Heart of Mine,” and many, many 
more.

Sierra Madre’s 
Woman’s Club 
Opens Year on 
September 22nd

Sierra Madre Woman’s Club will begin the year with their 
Annual Membership Tea on Wednesday, September 22, 
2010, 1:00 p.m. at the Essick House, their historic clubhouse 
located at 550 W. Sierra Madre Blvd., Sierra Madre.

 An invitation is extended to all women in the area to attend, 
enjoy the afternoon and see what this busy, caring group is 
all about.

 Club meetings are held on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday 
during the day through May. A program of interest is 
presented at each meeting. Several social, community and 
fund-raising events are also held during the year. 

 Their popular Wistaria Thrift Shop is located at the read of 
the clubhouse, the bargain and treasur seekers’ delight. 

 For the last two years, their philanthropy donations to 
needy causes has been over $20,000. Their warm fellowship 
offers a great opportunity to make friends. 

 First organized in 1907. this is the club’s103rd year and an 
important tradition in Sierra Madre.
