PARKER’S PUMPKINS - Part II

Photos by Lina Johnson

For those who made the journey to view Sierra Madre’s Halloween Decorations,
the sights and sounds were worth the rate. The city had hundreds of homes
that were adorned with ghosts and goblins, cemetaries and witches and all
manner of scary, creepy crawly things. And, as if to reward the residents for
their hard work, thousands of characters, some scary, some funny of all ages,
knocked on doors with that annual salutation, “Trick or Treat”! According to
the Sierra Madre Police Department, this year’s attendance exceeded last year’s
estimated 6-7,000 people.

On Alegria, where residents truly go all out, the street was filled with literally
thousands of people waiting in line to get a close up look at the amazing
creations.

In last week’s edition, Lina Johnson told the amazing story of one family on
Alegria, Doug and Heather Parker, who, along with Heather’s brother Chris
Roberts and other family members, create the most, “resplendent visual treat”
from pumpkins that one can imagine. At that time, the work had not been
completed, but by Sunday evening, all systems were ready to go.

For your enjoyment, here are a few of the carved pumpkin’s that the Parkers
displayed to the delight of thousands.

Starting from the top, left to right: The King and Queen of Halloween, Doug
and Heather Parker with a few smiling faces; A creepy crawly smiling caterpiller
(pumpkinpiller?); a close up of the eyes that greet you as you enter the house; the
view from the sidewalk and last, but certainly not least, the hairdo to end all
hairdo’s.
