The City of Arcadia was presented with two
awards at the Egyptian Theater in Hollywood
last night (Wednesday, June 22) by the Los
Angeles Chapter of the American Planning
Association.

The 1,100-member group recognized Arcadia
with The Comprehensive Plan Award/Award of
Merit for the City’s recently updated General
Plan; and the Distinguished Leadership Award/
Citizen Planner to Arcadia resident and

The APA Award winners were announced in
April.

Mayor Kovacic was on hand to join recipients
Assistant City Manager Jason Kruckeberg,
Senior Planner Lisa Flores, Deputy Director of
Development Services Phil Wray, and Laura
Stetson of Hogle-Ireland, the City’s General
Plan Consultant.

Every year, the American Planning Association
recognizes outstanding planning and environmental
achievements by individuals, cities
and business. The efforts of these individuals
and organizations are honored for innovative
and exceptional planning for the physical environment.
Both award recipients are now eligible
for State-wide recognition.

Arcadia’s updated General Plan was adopted
by the City Council at the end of 2010 after
much public input and many hours of work by
staff and the volunteer General Plan Advisory
Committee. The General Plan is a planning
document that represents the community’s view
of the future. The policies and goals set forth in
the General Plan are the basis of future land use
decisions; they will help to preserve neighborhoods
and they create a framework for smart
and sustainable growth.

 The Distinguished Leadership Award was
presented to Scott Hettrick for his outstanding
leadership and countless hours of work on behalf
of the General Plan, as well as his efforts in
a number of areas such as historical preservation
through the “History Lives Here” program
which recognizes historic landmarks and buildings
in Arcadia, the Gold Line Extension Project,
and community outreach.

Arcadia’s General Plan is available for public
view on the City website at http://www.
