THE TEARDROP PROJECT: IN SUPPORT OF RICHARD PECK
LOS ANGELES—On April 19, the community will gather for a tri-tip BBQ in support of a Monrovia
man, Richard Peck, who has been diagnosed with cancer on his lungs, brain, back and esophagus.
Richard has one goal and that is to leave a legacy for his son, Nick. Richard has designed a teardrop
style trailer that converts to a standing area and sleeping quarters similar to many from the early 40s
and 50s. Designed from the ground up, he has built most of it and only needs a few supplies and about
two months of limited time to finish the prototype. He would like to take his son camping in it if he
can and hopefully leave the finished trailer and the ability to rebuild and sell it as a legacy for Nick. In
order to make this goal a reality, members of the community have come together in support of Nick
and Richard.
“A nightmare for most of us is to be faced with a terminal disease and limited time, not knowing what
the future of our family will be. This is the situation that Richard has found himself in. There is not
always a lot we can do, but as a community coming together, we can share the opportunity to help
and promote hope. I am proud to know Richard and look forward to this event and the legacy we
can create together,” said Mike Comer, friend of Richard Peck and founder of The Teardrop Project.
The Teardrop Project: In Support of Richard Peck will be held at Santa Anita Park on Saturday, April
19 at 11 a.m. In addition to the races, the event will include a tri-tip BBQ, teardrop and vintage trailer
displays, live entertainment and raffles. Tickets for general admission, food and parking are on sale
now for $25 and entries for trailer displays will be $50 not including general admission, these can
both be purchased on the event website at teardropproject.com. For more information about the
event, please contact Nicole Walker at teardropprojectRP@gmail.com or call 888-484-3922.
ANTONOVICH PUSHES FOR COUNTY SUPPORT
OF FEDERAL LEGISLATION TO STEM HUMAN
TRAFFICKING
LOS ANGELES COUNTY — Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich has introduced a motion to add
Los Angeles County to the list of those supporting H.R. 3344 (Royce R-CA), the Fraudulent Overseas
Recruitment and Trafficking Elimination (FORTE) Act of 2013.
“Los Angeles County is facing a growing epidemic in human trafficking - we must work with Federal
and State leaders to address these issues and stem the widespread devastation it creates,” said Supervisor
Antonovich. “This vital legislation ensures that the provision of foreign assistance does not
contribute to human trafficking and will help combat the issue by requiring greater transparency in
the recruitment of foreign workers.”
The requirements for foreign labor workers under the FORTE Act will help eliminate corrupt overseas
recruitment and sex trafficking in foreign nations. In addition, the U.S. Department of State can
utilize Certificates of Registration to maintain and make public any information regarding the identities
of foreign labor contractors and their employers.
Antonovich’s motion, which will be voted on during the Board’s next meeting, directs the County’s
federal advocates to support H.R. 3344 and send a letter signed by all five Supervisors expressing their
support to the Los Angeles County congressional delegation.
