SEIRRA MADRE POLICE ARREST
A TEACHER FOR SEXUAL
ENCOUNTER WITH A MINOR

VOLUME 9 NO. 8

LOW TURNOUT EXPECTED IN
MARCH 10TH ELECTION

SUSPECTS ARRESTED ON
SUSPICION OF BURGLARY

 On Wednesday the Sierra
Madre Police successfully
and safely apprehended
two individuals suspected
of burglary. At 11:48 am,
a call was received from a
resident of the 400 Block
of Foothill Avenue stating
they had witnessed a
suspect steal a package
from their front porch.
The victim chased after the
suspect before he jumped
into a vehicle. Police were
notified and were provided
a clear description of
the vehicle and suspect.
Officers searched the
city and located Javier
Armenta, near Jameson and
Grandview.

 Upon questioning Javier,
he informed Officers that
he parked his vehicle a
short distance away, which
contained the stolen package
and other property believed
to have been taken in a
commercial burglary. Other
observant community
members saw a second man
run from the vehicle and
provided a description to
police.

 Officers located and
apprehended Christopher D.
Corioriles, on Highland, east
of Grove St. Both suspects
were taken into custody without incident for suspicion of burglary,
possession of burglary tools, and the theft of the package.

At press time, both men remained in custody, Armenta on $46,000
bail and Corioriles on $11,000 bail.

IF YOU SEE SOMETHING, SAY SOMETHING!

 The Sierra Madre Police
Department arrested an East
San Gabriel Valley Regional
Occupational Program (ROP)
teacher for allegedly having a
sexual encounter with a minor,
who is a student at Gladstone
High School in Azusa. While
this teacher was not a direct
employee of the Azusa Unified
School District, the District
holds this individual to the same
high standards to which they
hold their own teachers.

 Azusa Unified School District
Staff found out about the
allegation Thursday afternoon
and immediately contacted
Child Protective Services, ROP’s
director of personnel, and local
law enforcement. The teacher
was immediately removed from
the campus and placed on leave.
After further investigation it was
determined that the encounter
took place in the city of Sierra
Madre.

 The Sierra Madre Police
Department, which has
jurisdiction over the case,
was notified and immediately
began an investigation into
the allegations. The teacher,
Eddee Kolos, 50 of Sierra Madre
turned herself into police on
Thursday afternoon and after
being interviewed was arrested
and transported to the Pasadena
Jail where she was booked for
having sexual intercourse with
a minor.

 Public Safety Director Larry
Giannone said, “The cooperation
of the Azusa Unified School
District, the Covina Police
Department, and the quick
work of Sierra Madre Police
Department Detectives were
instrumental in bringing this
case to a quick conclusion and
the arrest of the suspect within
four hours of school authorities
being notified.”

Kolos remains free on bond and
is due back in Pasadena Court
on April 3, 2015.

Anyone that may have
information about this case
are urged to contact the Sierra
Madre Police Department at
(626) 355-1414.

CIVIC CLUB TURNS 70!

On February 12th, members of the Sierra Madre Civic Club welcomed
past presidents to a gala celebrating 70 years of service and philanthropy.
Tables were decked with sparkling birthday decorations, balloons
adorned the room, and a lovely birthday cake was served.

In keeping with the theme “You Light Up My Life”, each of the past
presidents was given a candle as she was introduced. Of those in
attendance, the earliest past president was Ann Tyler, a charter member
of Club who was president in 1951-1952 and the past president who came
the farthest to the celebration was Judy Young Zaretzka, president in
1995-97, who joined us from Arroyo Grande.

The Sierra Madre Civic Club is a civic and philanthropic organization.
Members raise thousands of dollars every year that is given away in
educational scholarships and in grants to community organizations.
You’ll find us working at Huck Finn Day, the Mt. Wilson Trail Race,
Fourth of July Games in the Park, the Wistaria Festival, Concerts in the
Park, and other community wide events. We meet the second Thursday
of every month at 7:30 PM in the Hart Park House.
