ARCADIA POLICE BLOTTER
For the period of Sunday, July 12th, through Saturday, July 18th, the
Police Department responded to 1,018 calls for service of which 127
required formal investigations. The following is a summary report of
the major incidents handled by the Department during this period.
Sunday, July 12:
Just before 1:51 p.m., an officer responded to a residence in the 500
block of Walnut Avenue regarding a mail theft report. Surveillance
footage revealed a subject forced open the locked mail box at 3:55
a.m., stole the victim’s mail, and fled westbound in a vehicle. The
investigation is ongoing.
At approximately 6:51 p.m., an officer responded to a residence in
the 200 block of East Colorado Boulevard regarding a battery report
between a mother and daughter-in-law. During an altercation, the
suspect, a 50-year-old female from Arcadia pushed her 73-year-old
mother in law, causing her to fall and injure herself. The suspect was
arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for booking. The
victim declined medical attention.
Monday, July 13:
At about 2:12 a.m., an officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle
in the area of Peck Road and Lower Azusa Road for weaving and
straddling lanes. Upon contacting the driver, the officer detected
a strong odor of alcohol emitting from inside of the vehicle. A
records check revealed the 30-year-old male from Norwalk had
two outstanding misdemeanor warrants and a suspended license.
He was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for
booking.
At approximately 1:06 p.m., an officer responded to the parking lot
of the U.S. Post Office, 41 East Wheeler Avenue, regarding a vehicle
burglary report. Witnesses reported seeing a male break the front
passenger window and steal the victim’s purse from her front seat.
The suspect fled southbound toward the alley in a dark-colored GMC
Sierra truck. The investigation is ongoing.
Tuesday, July 14:
Around 9:15 a.m., an officer responded to a residence in the 2700
block of Winthrop Avenue regarding a burglary report. Sometime
between July 12th and July 14th, an unknown suspect broke a rear
window, ransacked the residence, and stole an undetermined amount
of property. No suspects were seen and no witnesses were located.
Just after 4:40 p.m., an officer conducted an enforcement stop on
a vehicle in the area of Fairview Avenue and La Cadena Avenue for
having an obstructed license plate. Upon contacting the driver, the
officer discovered the 38-year-old male from El Monte had never
been issued a driver’s license. He was cited and released in the field.
The vehicle was left legally parked.
Wednesday, July 15:
Shortly after 6:24 a.m., an officer responded to Motel 6, 225 Colorado
Place, regarding a stolen vehicle report. Sometime during the
previous night, an unknown suspect stole the victim’s 2012 Volvo.
No suspects were seen and no witnesses were located.
At about 6:19 p.m., an officer responded to the front counter of the
Arcadia Police Department in reference to a fraud report. The victim
attempted to purchase a vehicle listed on Craigslist. The seller, who
claimed to be a sergeant for the military, instructed the victim to
pay for the vehicle by purchasing Green Dot Cards or Pay Pal Cash
Cards. The victim complied and provided the seller with the Green
Dot card numbers. When the expected arrival date had passed, all
communication from the seller had stopped. The suspect has yet to
be identified.
Thursday, July 16:
At approximately 10:17 a.m., an officer responded to Elite Massage
Spa, 32 East Live Oak Avenue, regarding a petty theft report.
Surveillance footage revealed a male and female suspect arrived on
bicycles at 3:45 a.m. They removed the business’ security camera and
fled in an unknown direction.
The suspects are described as a Hispanic male, 40 to 45-yearsold,
medium build, shaved head, with a mustache and a white or
Hispanic female, 35 to 40-years-old, medium build, with short hair.
Both suspects are outstanding at the time of this report.
Around 7:10 p.m., an officer responded to a residence in the 700
block of Southview Road regarding a theft report. An investigation
revealed an unknown suspect stole the victim’s laptop from her
unlocked vehicle. No suspects were seen and no witnesses were
located.
Friday, July 17:
At about 8:05 a.m., an officer responded to Villa Catrina, 251 North
Santa Anita Avenue, regarding a commercial burglary report. The
officer discovered an unknown suspect pried open one of the exterior
doors, ransacked the office, and stole cash and laptops. No suspects
were seen and no witnesses were located.
Just after 1:47 p.m., an officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle
in the area of Duarte Road and Golden West Avenue for expired
registration. Upon contacting the driver, the 39-year-old male from
San Gabriel admitted to placing the fraudulent registration sticker
on his vehicle. He was cited and released in the field. The vehicle was
left legally parked.
Saturday, July 18:
Just after 5:59 p.m., an officer responded to the front counter of the
Arcadia Police Department regarding a report of indecent exposure.
An investigation revealed an unknown male in a vehicle exposed
himself to a victim in a nearby vehicle. The suspect fled southbound
on Santa Anita Avenue.
The suspect is described as a Hispanic male, 20 to 30-years-old,
with short dark hair, goatee, light to medium complexion, and was
wearing black rimmed glasses. The vehicle is described as an older
model, tan, four-door sedan. The suspect is outstanding at the time
of this report.
At approximately 9:06 p.m., officers responded to a residence in
the 200 block of West Colorado Boulevard regarding a domestic
dispute report. During an argument, the victim’s boyfriend pushed
her, causing her to fall onto the couch. He then knocked over a table,
causing it to strike the victim’s foot and ankle. The 28-year-old male
from Arcadia was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail
for booking. The victim declined medical attention.

More than 300 Arcadia volunteers, organizations, business members
of the Arcadia Chamber of Commerce, and the City of Arcadia
and Arcadia Unified School District are coming together this week
to ensure a memorable first impression of the USA, California,
and Arcadia for 87 Special Olympics World Games athletes,
coaches and mentors from the Caribbean dual-island country of
Trinidad and Tobago as well as the Kyrgyz Republic (Kyrgyzstan).
As the competitors in the World Games from July 25-Aug. 2
transition from their home countries upon arrival this week on
Tuesday, Arcadians are pulling together to help them acclimate
by providing all hotels, meals, transportation, and training
facilities July 21-24 at no charge under the Host Town Arcadia
program. Fun outings have also been arranged to the Los Angeles
County Arboretum, Westfield Santa Anita mall, the Arcadia
Police station, and an outdoor concert and dinner on the lawn
of City Hall featuring Caribbean music, among other activities.
And the Final Leg of the Law Enforcement Torch Run that
will include a ceremony in front of Arcadia City Hall at 3 p.m.
Wednesday, July 22, before its next stop in Beverly Hills.
Bruce McCallum is the volunteer chairman of the organizing
Host Town Arcadia Committee of about 20 volunteers, which will
provide gift packages with photos for each of the attendees to take
home. Denise Weaver has organized 185 community volunteers for
myriad duties. And many other organizations are supporting in
various ways, including the Arcadia Chinese Association, Arcadia
Woman’s Club, Arcadia Civic Youth Council, Arcadia Rotary Club,
Girl Scouts Troop 5801, among others. Matt Denny’s Ale House
Restaurant is donating a gala dinner and In-N-Out is providing
lunch valued at $1,300 from one of its trucks. The Derby and BJ’s
restaurants donated proceeds from recent Host Town Arcadia
fundraisers. Coca-Cola and Sowing Seeds for Life have donated
dozens of cases of water and beverages.
Arcadia Chamber of Commerce Community Builder
Presenting Sponsor, Westfield Santa Anita, is one of more than
a handful of Westfield malls supporting some of the dozens
of Host Towns in Southern California. Westfield Santa Anita
will host a ceremony and shopping excursion in Arcadia that
will include gift bags and commemorative pins for the visitors.
Three Arcadia Chamber member hotels – Embassy Suites Arcadia,
Hilton Garden Inn, and Santa Anita Inn -- are offering guests greatly
discounted room rates for three nights, plus three free breakfasts
and free WiFi, a collective donation of tens of thousands of dollars.

· 12 noon - 1:30 p.m.: Wilderness Park tour and lunch coordinated
by Former Mayor
George Fasching of Fasching’s Car Wash and paid for by the Arcadia
Rotary Club.
· 2 p.m.: Arcadia Police Station welcome by Arcadia Police Chief
Robert Guthrie, and a guided tour of the police station, including
jail, evidence room, shooting range, etc.
· 3 p.m.: City Hall lawn for the Law Enforcement Torch Run Final
Leg - athletes and hundreds of law enforcement personnel champion
acceptance and inclusion via Flame of Hope.
· 5:30 p.m.: Gala Dinner provided courtesy of Matt Denny’s Ale
House, including Mayor, Council Members, Board of Education, and
other dignitaries to meet and greet the delegation in 15-20-minute
program.
Thursday, July 23
· 9:30 a.m.: AHA field for warm-ups and workouts.

Dustbowl Revival (Modern & Contemporary Jazz) – July 30, 2015
The Dustbowl Revival is a Venice, California-based collective that
merges old school bluegrass, gospel, pre-war blues and the hot swing
