BREEDERS’ CUP CLOCK UNVEILED
The Arcadia Chamber hosts ribbon-cutting for racing’s return to Santa Anita Park
If you’ve driven past the Arcadia Chamber of Commerce building recently you can’t help but notice
the large, tarp-covered item on the corner. Hidden beneath was the official Longines countdown clock
for Breeders’ Cup 2016, which will be held at Santa Anita Park. On Tuesday, May 10th the Chamber
and Breeders’ Cup got together to officially cut the ribbon and unveil the clock, with 177 days left to
go under November’s big event. The clock will continue to count down the days and minutes to when
racing’s biggest stars will show their stuff on the track. Santa Anita will host the Breeders’ Cup World
Championships for a record ninth time this fall.
With Breeders’ Cup Executive VP and COO, Robert N. Elliston presiding, the Chamber Ambassadors
and Board members, city officials and county reps gathered in front of the clock. ABC7 news covered
the event, as well. Mr. Elliston was welcomed to the city by new Mayor, Tom Beck, along with
Elizabeth Andalon from the office of Judy Chu, Clayton Arick from Ed Hernandez’s office and Adam
Hsu, from the office of Ed Chau. The Chamber also presented Mr. Elliston with a certificate and in
turn Chamber CEO Karen Mac Nair was presented a beautifully framed saddle cloth in Breeders’
Cup purple, with the Chamber’s iconic logo embroidered on it. This amazing gift was immediately
hung in the Chamber office for all to see. Also present from Breeders’ Cup; Bryan Pettigrew, Senior
Vice President, Drew Fleming, Senior Vice President and Brandy Stoeckinger, Sr. Director, Ticketing
and Horsemen Relations.
Mayor Tom Beck echoed everyone’s statement when he welcomed the Breeders’ Cup back to Arcadia,
saying he was glad to have them.
Other guests included city council members, April Verlato and Roger Chandler, City Manager,
Dominic Lazzaretto, and Pete Siberell of Santa Anita Park. Also present were Assistant City Manager,
Jason Kruckeberg, Mike Vercillo and Steve Delgadillo from the Arcadia PD’s Community Affairs, and
Economic Development Analyst for the city, Tim Schwehr.
