4 SOUTH PASADENA - SAN MARINO Mountain Views-News Saturday, September 2, 2017 Democratic Party Statement on The California Disclose Act Equestrians Set To Ride in 2018 Rose Parade South Pasadena Library Offers ‘Mango Languages’ Los Angeles County Democratic Party Vice Chair Mark Gonzalez released the following statement regarding AB 249, The California Disclose Act: “As Chair Bauman noted when LACDP endorsed the California Disclose Act in its first iteration as AB 14, it’s long past time that we begin to get dark money out of politics. We urge the State Senate to pass the AB 249 compromise bill at the earliest possible time. The ability of ultra-conservative dark money groups to surreptitiously fund initiatives and referenda that advance the right-wing agenda must be reined in. AB 249 is a major step toward reforming our campaign finance system. “Upon passage of AB 249, The California Disclose Act will prevent corporate interests and billionaires from unfairly influencing California’s elections from the shadows. Enacting unprecedented levels of campaign finance transparency with AB 249 is not just necessary, it is essential to ensure that the citizenry are confident that our elections are not beholden to hidden special interests, but represent their interests.” Tournament of Roses 2018 President Lance Tibbet is proud to announce 20 equestrian groups to ride in the 129th Rose Parade presented by Honda, themed “Making a Difference.” The equestrian groups selected are (listed alphabetically): 1st Cavalry Division Horse Cavalry Detachment (Fort Hood, Texas) Broken Horn Ropers (Baldwin Park, California) Budweiser Clydesdales (St. Louis, Missouri) California Highway Patrol Mounted Patrol Unit (Sacramento, California) Long Beach Mounted Police (Long Beach, California) Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Mounted Enforcement Detail (Los Angeles, California) The Los Angeles Police Department Metropolitan Division Mounted Platoon, Honor Guard, Bagpipe & Drum Band (Los Angeles, California) Los Hermanos Bañuelos Charro Team (Altadena, California) Mane Attraction Equestrian Drill Team (Riverside, California) Mini Therapy Horses (Calabasas, California) The New Buffalo Soldiers (Shadow Hills, California) The Norco Cowgirls & The Little Miss Norco Cowgirls Rodeo Drill Teams (Norco, California) Ramona - California’s Official Outdoor Play (Hemet, California) Scripps Miramar Ranch (San Diego, California) So Cal Mini Horse Sanctuary, Inc. Blue Boy to be Subject of Conservation Project One of the most famous paintings in British and American history, The Blue Boy, made around 1770 by English painter Thomas Gainsborough (1727–1788), will undergo its first major technical examination and conservation treatment. Project Blue Boy bagin on Aug. 8, when the life-size image of a young man in an iconic blue satin costume will go off public view for preliminary conservation analysis until Nov. 1. The Huntington Library, Art Collections, and Botanical Gardens, home to The Blue Boy since its acquisition by founder Henry E. Huntington in 1921, will conduct the conservation project over a two-year period. The final part of the project will largely take place in public view, during a year-long exhibition, also called “Project Blue Boy,” presented from Sept. 2018 to Sept. 2019 in the Thornton Portrait Gallery, where the painting traditionally hangs. “We are profoundly conscious of our duty of care towards this unique and remarkable treasure,” said Steve Hindle, The Huntington’s Interim President and W.M. Keck Foundation Director of Research. “The Blue Boy has been the most beloved work of art at The Huntington since it opened its doors in 1928. It is with great pride that we launch this thoughtful and painstaking endeavor to study, restore, and preserve Gainsborough’s masterpiece. The fact that we are able to do so while inviting the public to watch and to learn is both gratifying and exciting— not least since the project is so perfectly suited to our mission.” The Huntington’s website will track the project as it unfolds at huntington.org/ Transitioning to District Elections A City Council Public Hearing Wednesday night to review the districting process, to hear from residents about their ideas for potential “communities of interest,” and to receive City Council direction on the criteria to be considered for mapping of districts.
