Congratulationsto Mayaand theTroop 5871for done. ### EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT THROUGHOUT SAN GABRIEL VALLEY SIERRA MADRE EDITION SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 2, 2017 VOLUME 11 NO. 35 HEAT WAVE TO CONTINUE ANOTHER WEEK LOCAL GIRL SCOUT ENGINEERS LEGO PROGRAM FOR THE SIERRA MADRE PUBLIC LIBRARY When local Girl Scout, Maya Ledesma, requested to complete her Gold Award Project at the Sierra Madre Public Library, no one could have imagined she’d reach such great heights. Along with local Daisy Troop 5871 from Sierra Madre Elementary, Maya collaborated with the Library and local schools to hold a LEGO donation drive, cleaned and sorted the donations, and started a weekly Friday LEGO program which attracted nearly 600 people during 9 programs this summer. This isn’t the end for Maya and the Library LEGOs. The weekly LEGO Play Day has become a programming staple and will continue every Friday throughout the school year with new hours. Congratulations to Maya and the Troop 5871 for a job well done. EQUESTRIANS SET TO RIDE IN 2018 ROSE PARADE® PASADENA, Calif. (August 31, 2017) – Tournament of Roses® 2018 President Lance Tibbet is proud to announce 20 outstanding equestrian groups to ride in the 129th Rose Parade presented by Honda, themed “Making a Difference.” The equestrian groups selected are (listed alphabetically): 1st Cavalry Division Horse Cavalry Detachment (Fort Hood, Texas) Broken Horn Ropers (Baldwin Park, California) Budweiser Clydesdales (St. Louis, Missouri) California Highway Patrol Mounted Patrol Unit (Sacramento, California) Long Beach Mounted Police (Long Beach, California) Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Mounted Enforcement Detail (Los Angeles, California) The Los Angeles Police Department Metropolitan Division Mounted Platoon, Honor Guard, Bagpipe & Drum Band (Los Angeles, California) Los Hermanos Bañuelos Charro Team (Altadena, California) Mane Attraction Equestrian Drill Team (Riverside, California) Mini Therapy Horses (Calabasas, California) The New Buffalo Soldiers (Shadow Hills, California) The Norco Cowgirls & The Little Miss Norco Cowgirls Rodeo Drill Teams (Norco, California) Ramona - California’s Official Outdoor Play (Hemet, California) Scripps Miramar Ranch (San Diego, California) So Cal Mini Horse Sanctuary, Inc. All riders must have previous parade riding experience. In addition to riding in the five and a half mile-long Rose Parade route on Monday, January 1, these equestrian groups are invited to take part in Equestfest presented by Wells Fargo, which will take place on Friday, December 29, 2017, at the Los Angeles Equestrian Center. During Equestfest, groups perform trick riding, drills, dancing and roping skills, and attendees can walk through the stables and speak with the riders. About the Pasadena Tournament of Roses® The Tournament of Roses is a volunteer organization that hosts America’s New Year Celebration® with the Rose Parade® presented by Honda, the Rose Bowl Game® presented by Northwestern Mutual and a variety of accompanying events. 935 volunteer members of the association will drive the success of 129th Rose Parade themed “Making a Difference,” on Monday, January 1, 2018, followed by the College Football Playoff Semifinal at the 104th Rose Bowl Game.
