YOUTH BOOKMARK CONTEST 
SPONSORED BY THE SIERRA MADRE 
PUBLIC LIBRARY

Local students are invited to enter the popular annual 
Bookmark Contest in March 2024. This year’s theme is: 
“Sierra Madre Stories”.

Artwork may be designed with any tools but must be completely original work. Entries 
should showcase people, places, or things that depict stories related to reading or literacy 
in Sierra Madre. 

Winning entries will be displayed in the Library and winners will receive a certificate 
and cash prize at a ceremony in their honor. 

The contest is open to children in Kindergarten through 8th grade (including Transitional 
Kindergarten), who go to school in Sierra Madre, or live in Sierra Madre, or who have a 
Sierra Madre Public Library card.

Pick up your bookmark application at the Sierra Madre Public Library, on the Library 
website, and at schools in Sierra Madre starting March 4, 2024. Entries are due by April 
11, 2024 at the Library.

LOCAL RESIDENTS NAMED TO DEAN'S LIST AT 
BIOLA UNIVERSITY

Approximately 1,600 students were named to the Biola University Dean's List in Fall 2023. Biola 
students are placed on the dean's list to honor those with a GPA of 3.6 or higher while enrolled in 
12 or more credits and whose cumulative GPA is at least 3.2.

Biola University celebrated 116 years of impacting its surrounding communities this month by going back 
to its LA roots and serving the homeless community in downtown Los Angeles. Biola is a nationally ranked 
Christian university in the heart of Southern California. In a recently released study in the book Christian 
Higher Education: An Empirical Guide by Perry Glanzer, Biola scored the highest out of 570 Christian 
colleges and universities in North America for making Christian faith central to its identity, curriculum, 
community and policies.
