Participate
in the Mack
and Jackie
Robinson
Public

Art Survey

City of Pasadena’s Tribute
to Latino Heritage Month

Director of Planning &
Community Development,
Jennifer Paige and the Cultural
Affairs Division announced
Thursday the launch of the
Robinson Community Survey
and invites the public to
participate by sharing their
perspectives on the legacies of
Mack and Jackie Robinson.

 The Robinson Community
Survey is a key component of
the Robinson Park Recreation
Center Public Art Project,
designed to gather community
input and ensure that the
legacies of Mack and Jackie
Robinson are meaningfully
reflected in two new artworks
planned for the Recreation
Center. Community members
are invited to share their
perspectives on the influence
of Mack and Jackie Robinson,
including the impacts of
their lives, accomplishments,
contributions to the Pasadena
community and beyond. The
data and public comments
collected through the Survey
will play a crucial role in
shaping the artistic vision of
the public art project, resulting
in permanent artworks that
resonate with and honor
the diverse perspectives of
Northwest Pasadena.

 The information gathered
as part of the Robinson
Community Survey will
remain confidential and will
be used for internal purposes
only to better capture and
understand the perspectives of
the community. Participants
may choose to remain
anonymous.

 The Robinson Park
Recreation Center Public
Art Project offers an exciting
opportunity for the Northwest
Pasadena community to
contribute their unique
stories and perspectives into
the formation of a large-scale
public art initiative.

 The Public Art Project
includes two complimentary
public artworks, to be
installed permanently at
the Recreation Center, each
with a dedicated artist and a
budget of $200,000. Artists
Deborah Aschheim and Carla
Jay Harris are working directly
with Northwest Pasadena
residents and stakeholders to
develop research and gather
source material which will
serve as the basis for their
public art proposals. Given
the unique requirements of
this project, the artists are
responsible for initiating
numerous opportunities for
engaging with the Northwest
Pasadena community,
ranging from large public
events to small intimate
conversations. Through
substantive community
engagement during the
public art development
process, the project aims
to create meaningful and
inclusive artworks that bridge
generations and celebrates
local history.

City Council to Consider Adding Four
more Large Concerts at the Rose Bowl

 The Pasadena city council is
set to discuss Monday adding
four large concert events at the
Rose Bowl Stadium bringing the
total number of displacement
events to 25 –ten over the
allowed 15 per year. The council
will also move forward giving
new authority when adding
large events to the Rose Bowl
Operating Company (ROBC)
Board of Directors.

 According to the city council
report The Rose Bowl Operating
Company is asking to host two
major concerts in May/June
2025 and two major concerts
in August/September 2025 with
Live Nation as the promoter.
The attendance for each event
is expected to be approximately
60,000 they said.

 “The concerts would be the
22nd, 23rd, 24th and 25th
displacement events in 2025,”
the report reads. “The first 21
displacement events in 2025 are
as follows: six scheduled UCLA
football

games, the Rose Bowl Game,
ten Music Festival dates, three
soccer matches with Federation
Internationale de Football
Association, and one soccer
match with Soccer United
Marketing.”

 According to the Pasadena
Municipal Code, the number of
displacement events can be no
more than 15 in any calendar
year except with the permission
of the city council. In order to
exceed 15 displacement events,
the city council must make
certain findings that include, the
event does not impose undue
adverse impacts on surrounding
residential areas or that the event
does not create undue conflicts
with other Arroyo Seco activities
taking place at the same time.

 Other findings include that
the revenue from the additional
event justifies its consideration
and that it is estimated that these
events will directly generate in
excess of $500,000 per event for
the RBOC. The additional event
represents a unique opportunity
that will enhance the stature of
the Rose Bowl’s reputation as a
world class venue.

In a separate but related agenda
item the council will hear the
first reading to modifications
to the Pasadena Municipal
Code, previously mentioned, to
delegate the making of findings
for displacement events to the
Rose Bowl Operating Company
Board of Directors until
December 31, 2033.

The council meets at 6 p.m.
in the Council Chamber,
Pasadena City Hall 100 North
Garfield Avenue, Room S249.
The council will take public
comment before voting on the
issue of displacement events.
