HUDDLE UP
THANKSGIVING CALORIE QUIZ
Instead of offering tips on how to avoid overeating (which rarely work anyway) how
about just looking at the honest numbers on how many calories are in the foods you’re
about to eat? Grab a pen and calculator and circle the foods and amounts you usually
consume from the list below. Then tally up all the calories for your Thanksgiving day
celebration.
Be sure to be accurate with your portion sizes too. For example, if you’re snacking on
nuts waiting for the main meal how much are you going to consume? If you’re eating
a half cup or more be sure to adjust the calories on the list below. After you’ve gone
through the whole list see how many calories you’re really about to eat. For the average
person that’s probably a few drinks, some nuts, cheese, crackers, turkey, stuffing,
mashed potatoes with gravy, rolls, green bean casserole, sweet potato casserole and a
piece of pecan pie with whipped cream. That will cost you about 3900 calories. Twice
what the average person should eat in a single day.

Now that you’ve seen how many calories are in these holiday foods you may opt to choose those you enjoy the most and scale
back on the others. Or eat just a little less of each food and enjoy them all. If you’re the host, maybe consider some lower
calorie options too for those who really want to enjoy their favorite few items without blowing thousands of calories on foods
they aren’t that crazy about. A few calories less here and there will make a big difference in helping to prevent overeating,
feeling stuffed, bloated and tired. Unless of course, you’re into that kind of thing.
