Weather Wise
“Our life is like March weather…savage and serene in one hour!
Ralph Waldo Emerson
This is the truest statement ever, friends and neighbors! I can’t believe it’s
been almost two months since I sat down at my computer to see if I could
think of something interesting to pass along to you. First of all, my most
heartfelt thanks to Susan Henderson for finding some columns from last
year to pass along to you.
For those of you who are wondering where I’ve been, I made a couple of
mistakes. Mistake #1: tangling my feet. Mistake #2: Breaking my femur. Bad
ideas, both of them. Anyway, after spending time in rehab relearning all the
basic stuff any three year old can easily do, like walking, I’m pretty much
finished with that chapter, except to mark in my journal: NEVER DO THAT
AGAIN! Thanks to my daughters, Crissy and Leah, I’m home and so happy
to be here.
As an abrupt change of topic, it’s that time of year again and Leah and I are
doing taxes. You probably are, too, As we shuffle through the mountains of
paper, most of which are the wrong pieces, we smile at each other and say,
“We’re almost there!” I wish you all an easy tax preparation year when you have all the right pieces of paper organized
in a folder.
The IRS Blues (An original lament by Deanne Davis)
“I’ve got those sad old, bad old, gotta pay my taxes blues.
The IRS has called me out, “Girl, don’t even bother to cry or pout.
We’re gonna get your very last dime.
And if you think you can fool us, well, you’re gonna do some time.”
I listed my deductions, and all my charities.
IRS just looked and laughed.
They said, “Girl, seriously? Please!
We see you feed the homeless and keep some foreign kids afloat.
You’re faithful to your church and send that tithe check in each month.
Folks like you, faithful and true, honest to the core,
Are the backbone of the Nation.
But to us, you’re just another tiresome bore.
We’re checking out your tax return with a microscope and fine-toothed comb.
We’re hoping that we’ll find a flaw so we can charge you even more.
Penalties, our penalties, we love those little things.
You thought that you had done it right, thought maybe you’d even sleep tonight.
IRS just looks and laughs, ‘Girl, seriously? Please!
If you think you’re gonna keep a dime, we’ll take you down in record time.”
Yes, my friends, I’ve got those sad old, bad old, gotta pay my taxes blues.
Ohhhh yeah…
And I suspect that you do, too.
As you might recall, my word for the year this year is “Thankful!” I’m thankful for a whole lot right now: Family who love
me, God who is healing me, all of you out there who sent me good wishes and prayers and for the rain we’ve had lately
which will make the flowers grow. Daffodils are sending up green spikes and Spring is almost here. A lot to be Thankful
for.

Look there for “The Crown,” a paperback book that’s practically free!
This is a beautiful story of what might have happened to that infamous crown of thorns.
With Easter on its way, this little book is the perfect read for yourself or a friend.
