MONROVIA - 2025 ART ON THE BOX- Call for Artists

Artists are encouraged to submit proposals for the 2025 Art in Public Places utility box enhancement
program, Art on the Box.

Art on the Box extends the reach of public art into the community by sponsoring artists to
improve the aesthetics of City owned utility cabinets. The theme for the 2025 Art on the Box
Program is Monrovia, All-America City. Four utility boxes are available for painting. Applications
will be accepted through March 31, 2025. If selected, artists will receive a $750 stipend.

Established in 2004, Art in Public Places supports the creation of public art through a variety
of programs and projects by sponsoring artists to paint utility boxes, murals, Samson the Bear
statues and Neighborhood Treasures. Public art visually represents Monrovia’s history, culture,
and values, creating a sense of place and identity that individuals can connect with. Public art
adds meaning and uniqueness to our community. It humanizes the built environment and is
freely accessible.

For questions regarding Art on the Box or Art in Public Places, please contact Kerri Zessau at
