WALKING SIERRA MADRE:

The Social Side by Deanne Davis

The Mt. Wilson Trail Race last Saturday was an absolute triumph
with 325 runners successfully completing the entire 8.6 mile course.
The winner, James Timphony won with an unbelievable time of

1:03:42. Like the wind, friends and neighbors! And here’s somethingI didn’t know, he has a record seven first place wins. Incredible! I
loved the picture of the first place female winner, Susie Watkins, inlast week’s Mountain Views News, bursting through the tape with
another incredible time of 1:27:26. So glad to see our Trail Race
happening again after that two year hiatus. Everybody in town was
there and all the businesses were present and providing food, drink,
encouragement and support. Sierra Madre is such an amazing place
to live.
Today, June 6th, is, in addition to the opening of our fabulous new
library, the 82nd anniversary of D-Day. Without the brilliant planning
and heroic sacrifices of the D-Day invasion, the Allies may never
have defeated the Nazi forces in Europe. On June 6, 1944, more than
156,000 American, British and Canadian troops stormed 50 miles
of Normandy’s fiercely defended beaches in northern France in an

A STROLL THROUGH TOWN: SUMMER
ARTS HIGHLIGHTS

By Elizabeth Converse

The Sierra Madre Summer ArtWalk returns to our friendly streets
on June 19, from 4 to 8 PM, with new art at multiple locations
and live music throughout. As we welcome the turning season,
take a stroll through town and discover all that summer has to
offer — a season of inspiring exhibitions, workshops, and creative
gatherings. Whether you’re here to wander, shop, or sign up for a
class, here are a few of the highlights.

Workshops and Classes This Summer

Local artist Kait Walsh is returning to her teaching roots
with a few opportunities this summer for people of all ages.
Space is still available for her Kids’ Pop-Up Workshop, a two-day
workshop for ages 7 to 12 in which students are guided through
the stages of bookmaking, character development, and story
writing. Details at creativeartsgroup.com.
Join Kait the last Wednesday of every month at Bess for Watercolor
Social Club. Tickets — which include a glass of wine! — are
available at hellobess.com. In the meantime, you can follow her classes, murals, and musings at @kaitwalsh_art.

Catch Lightning in a Bottle:A Flash Fiction & Collage Workshop with writer/artist Elizabeth Converse. For writers and artists
of all levels. No experience necessary — just a love of discovery and a willingness to unleash your inner writer.
Flash fiction and collage are kindred forms. Both gather fragments — an image, a phrase, a torn scrap, a remembered moment — and
arrange them so that meaning collects in the spaces between. Spontaneous, surprising, alive.
Across several playful sessions, we’ll move between the page and the table, making small written pieces and visual collages that spark
off each other. Our final session is a celebration — a warm circle where we share what we’ve made and honor every voice.
Come curious. Bring yourself, and a few scraps and images you love.
Sign-up begins next week — space is limited, so contact Elizabeth at econverse08@gmail.com to learn more.

At Bess & Fables & Fancies

Silent Reading Nights take place at Bess on the second Wednesday of every month, in collaboration with Ana, owner of Fables &
Fancies. Fables & Fancies holds ongoing art-based workshops for people of all ages. See their full schedule at fablesandfanciesbooks.
com/events.

On View Now

Drop by The BAG to see Summer Stroll through Emerge, featuring Michael Todd Serr and Demetrius Toney as part of the
gallery’s Emerging series. A figurative painter, Toney draws inspiration from the people around him; his work feels reminiscent of
photographs or fleeting memories of loved ones gone by, inviting conversation about voyeurism, memory, and what it means to see
oneself as a witness in social interactions. The show remains on view.

On June 13, 6–9 PM, painter Tyler Morgan presents Eulogy, a collection of new abstract/figurative works, at The LMF Gallery +
Darkroom.
