Joseph Pergola, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, veteran, craftsman, and dedicated 
community leader, passed away peacefully at his home in Sierra Madre, California, on June 2,2026, with his beloved wife by his side. He was 91 years old, and leaves behind a lasting legacy 
of service, creativity, generosity, and unwavering devotion to his family and community. 
Joseph was born in Los Angeles, California, on November 4, 1934, to Joseph and Josephine 
Pergola. 
Joseph proudly served in the United States Navy during the Korean War aboard the USS Shasta 
and USS Yancey. Following his military service, he built a distinguished career as a building 
contractor and became known for his exceptional talents as a woodworker, artist, and chef. 
Whether creating with his hands, preparing a meal, or helping a friend in need, Joseph shared 
his gifts generously throughout his life. 
As he established his career and family, Joseph also 
became a dedicated member of the Sierra Madre 
community. He was actively involved with the Sierra 
Madre Kiwanis Club and was honored as Sierra 
Madre Citizen of the Year in 2013 in recognition 
of his many contributions and tireless service to 
others. Through his kindness, craftsmanship, and 
willingness to help those around him, he touched 
countless lives. 
Joseph is survived by his loving wife, Jacqueline 
Pergola; his children, Karl (Cristina) and 
Kendal Pergola; his stepsons, Steven and Scott (Sandra) Drageset; and his cherished 
grandchildren, Karl Pergola Jr., Evan Drageset, and Emily Drageset. He was preceded 
in death by his parents, Joseph and Josephine Pergola, and his brother, Frank Rumore. 
He was loved by so many people who were fortunate to know him and benefit from his 
generosity, wisdom, and friendship. His legacy will continue to inspire all who knew 
him.

2026 OLDER AMERICAN 

The City of Sierra Madre is 
proud to recognize Dane 
Lenton as the 2026 Sierra 
Madre Older American Award 
recipient. 

A longtime Sierra Madre 
resident, Mr. Lenton has 
been an active member of the 
community since the 1960s and 
has lived in his current home 
since 1972. 

Dane has demonstrated a 
longstanding commitment to 
preserving the City's history 
and character through his 
service as Chairman of the 
Sierra Madre Cultural Heritage 
Commission and as a member 
of the Historical Preservation 
Society for the past 15 years. 

Mr. Lenton also serves on the 
Pioneer Cemetery Committee and is known for his generosity, welcoming 
spirit, and dedication to the community. 

Dane is being recognized during a special celebration attended by family, 
friends, and community members. 

The City extends its congratulations and appreciation to Mr. Lenton on this 
well-deserved recognition.
