BETHANY CHRISTIAN SCHOOL’S ADVENTURE CLUB

On Thursday, November
14th, The Bethany
Christian School Student
Council led an
Adventure Club outing
to Chantry Flats Recreation
Area in nearby
Arcadia. In addition
to hiking to Sturtevant
Falls, which was merely
a trickle this time of
year, the group roasted
hot dogs, marshmallows,
and coordinated
a trash pick-up project
to leave the area a little
better than when they
arrived.

The hot weather allowed
the students to
really take advantage of
the water at Sturtevant
Falls. Students quickly
shed their shoes and
socks upon arrival and
headed straight for the
waterfall. Heads were
dipped, newts were
found, and rocks were
climbed by all.

Twenty-six middle
school students, grades
six through eight, participated in the event. Mr. Kloostra, the Dean of Students and middle school history teacher at BCS, directed
the event with his wife, Mrs. Kloostra, who happens to be the Kindergarten teacher at Bethany. Mr. Kloostra's parents, educators from
Michigan with over 65 years of combined experience, also joined in on the fun. Mrs. Ambrose, the much-loved sixth grade teacher,
brought plenty of laughter and love for everyone.

The Adventure Club hike to Chantry Flats is a yearly event designed to encourage kids to get to know their local parks and enjoy the
beautiful world around them. For more information about Bethany Christian School please check out their blog www.bcslions.org

LETTER OF INTENT WITH UNIVERSITY OF
MICHIGAN FOR VOLLEYBALL

Photo and story by John Blackstock

Pasadena, CA - On Wednesday, November 13, Caroline Knop, (above with parents and sister) signed a National Letter of Intent to
Michigan University for a full athletic scholarship. Caroline, or “CK” as she in known, will earn 16 Varsity letters in her athletic career
at La Salle while playing four varsity sports each year; Volleyball, Golf, Basketball, and Softball. Arguably, she is La Salle High School’s
best female student-athlete in its 57-year history.

CK was the 11-12 and 12-13 Female Athlete of the Year and was selected to the first or second All-League team in all four sports every
year at La Salle.

She has been a standout contributor on the volleyball team that captured its fourth straight Del Rey League championship.

She was a key member of the school’s first-ever CIF Volleyball title in Division IA last season.

Her Volleyball Accolades include:

First Team All-League, First Team All CIF Division 1A.

Max Preps First Team All-State.

San Gabriel Valley Newspapers All-Area First Team.

Del Rey League MVP 2013.

Participated in the San Gabriel Valley Public vs. Private All-Star Game.

In addition to her rigorous athletic schedule CK maintained a 3.8 GPA. She also serves as a Student Ambassador and is a co-chair of the
Student Life Rally Committee.

There were only two things
that I knew about this movie before
I saw it. One of them was that
four famous actors were cast as
the lead roles: Robert de Niro, Michael
Douglas, Morgan Freeman,
and Kevin Kline. The other things
I knew was that this was a comedy
about them going to Vegas.

 Once friends in childhood,
Paddy (Robert de Niro), Billy (Michael
Douglas), Archie (Morgan
Freeman), and Sam (Kevin Kline)
had drifted apart as they grew olde.
However, when Billy enlists Archie
and Sam to get Paddy to come with
them on a bachelor party in Vegas,
their lives make a massive turnaround
as the city of gambling, parties, and alcohol takes them
on a wild ride.

While I initially thought this was just another comedy for
an older audience, I soon discovered that it much more. Yes, Last
Vegas has an older cast, but that does not mean it is meant for
older people. This movie takes the topic marriage and turns is
into a comedy that both younger and older can thoroughly enjoy.
