THE CIVIC CLUB SHOPPE RETURNS TO
WHO VILLE

On November 30, the Sierra Madre Civic Club Shoppe will join the Grinch and
be back in Kersting Court as part of the Chamber of Commerce’s Who Ville
Festival. The Shoppe will offer beautiful knitted items such as scarves, hats,
fingerless gloves, darling baby accessories, and many other unique hand-made
creations. These unique, one-of-a-kind items are made with loving hands by
Civic Club members and their friends and will make very special gifts for your
family and friends. And, if the weather is cold outside, how great it will be for
you to choose a lovely and practical treat for yourself. The prices are reasonable,
and the proceeds go back into the Civic Club Philanthropy budget to help fund
local community projects.

Don’t miss out on this opportunity to buy wonderful hand-made treasures while
supporting community organizations. Be there on November 30, say “Hi” to the
Grinch, and shop at the Civic Club Shoppe! It’ll be good for you, good for your
friends, and good for Sierra Madre.

CONSTRUCTION WELL UNDERWAY FOR
“CATCHING THE BIG ONE”

Float Moves Up n the 2014 Parade Line Up

The Sierra Madre Rose Float Association’s 2014 Rose Parade entry, “Catching the Big One.” was designed by award winning
float designer Charles Meier.

The name is in keeping with the 2014 Tournament of Roses Parade Theme, “Dreams Come True”.

In response to the announcement of the float’s prime placement in the lineup, SMRFA President Robert Young said, “I
am extremely pleased with Tournament’s announcement that our float will be the 16th entry and the 6th float in the 2014
Rose Parade. Tournament was unhappy with what occurred last year, as were we.”

Last year, there was an unfortunate incident during the parade that put a damper on the fact that SMRFA won their 7th
award out of the last 8 entries. Due to the parade itself exceeding broadcast television’s two hour window, the very last
scheduled float in the parade from Western Asset, advanced itself in the lineup which caused the Sierra Madre entry and
the Women’s Equestrian Group to miss most of the national broadcasts.

The SMRFA entry will be one of six self built floats. Other floats in that category include: The Burbank Tournament
of Roses Association, Cal Poly Universities (Pomona & San Luis Obispo), Downey Rose Float Association, La Canada
Flintridge Tournament of Roses Association, and the South Pasadena Tournament of Roses Association.

In the meantime, the clock is ticking and volunteers are busy at the barn.

Kaye Sappington, DECO Chair says, “it is time to kick it into high gear. Prep work at the barn is in full swing on Sunday’s
at the barn, from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Starting Saturday, November 23rd, Deco will also be working on Saturdays,
from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Come spend a few hours with us and help create “Catching the Big One”.

Dick Sappington is in charge of construction of the float, a task that begins almost immediately after the parade for the
next year.

WOUNDED WARRIOR CROSS COUNTRY CYCLING UPDATE:

Jerry Poole Continues His Journey Alone
and Ever Determined.

The journey continues, with weather slowing the pace
from time to time, but Jerry Poole has made significant
milestones on his journed this week. As he has recorded
on his facebook page, daytime temperatures are as high as
79 degrees and when the sun goes down, so does the thermometer.
Lately, the drop has been 35-40 degrees. And
inclimate weather has also slowed the journey, with rain,
thunderstorms and windstorms. Nevertheless, Jerry continues
on. At press time, he was still in Texas and looking
forward to a few days rest while the weather improves. He
has passed the 1,000 mile mark and had a couple days when
he put in more than 80 miles a day.

On his Facebook page this week, he shared a little about
himself, something that might help you understand this
man so determined to do whatever is in his power to help
his veteran kin.

But before you read about Jerry, don’t forget to show your
support. Like his Facebook page and follow the link to the Wounded Warriors Project. The fundraising goal for this
project is $10,000 and 100% of the funds go to the Wounded Warriors benefit. Go to the link below and make a donation
to WWP in the name of Jerry Poole’s Ride: Coast To Coast For Courage.
