As the Mountain Views News was going to press on Friday,
information came across the news desk that the final tallies of
the 2014 Creative Arts Sierra Madre Scarecrow Festival were just
coming in. There are more than 60 scarecrows around the city
and the public was able to vote for their favorites by paper ballot
or online.
The first category to be announced was The People’s Choice and
Mr. Van Crow, who has a rather lengthy story, took top honors.
He was submitted by Mission: Renaissance You can read Van
Crow’s story by going to: http://www.creativeartsgroup.org/
sc34/.

There is still time to view the Scarecrows as they will be on
duty until October 31st. If you want to see them online, or get a
map to find them in Sierra Madre, just stop by the Creative Arts
Group on North Baldwin or log on to: www.creativeartsgroup.
org. The complete list of winners in all other categories will be
available soon, as the awards were presented Friday evening. See
the crows for yourself and next week find out if you agree with
the judges! MVNews

This state of the art Pilates Studio will include a new
innovative way to do classical Pilates. This form of Pilates
and larger studio “will allow for bigger classes on machines
that will accommodate all body types and heights. “, Sandy
Duvall, owner of Sierra Fitness said.” The expansion of
Sierra Fitness will bring a lot to the community.

Sandy Duvall, the owner of Sierra Fitness, began her
journey in Sierra Madre two decades ago in October
1994. Sierra Fitness has brought the community together
through healthy living, friendship building, and educating
the importance of balance. The new expansion will carry
the same community feeling that Sierra Fitness has
achieved over the past 20 years.

While Sierra Fitness has always offered traditional
Pilates, Duvall has realized the traditional machines have
limitations. Duvall is proud to be the first in Southern
California to have one-of-a-kind Pilates machines.
“These new machines allow us to offer safe, effective, and
affordable group classes that everyone can benefit from”
Duvall said.

Sierra Fitness will be celebrating their 20-year anniversary
as well as their grand opening on October 25th at 10 a.m.
located at 51 East Montecito Avenue. There will be a walk-
through, live demos, food, and family entertainment.

BEARS IN OUR BACKYARD
Black Bears Force Closure of Assemblymember Holden’s District
Office Hours After Announcement of Bear Safety Event

Pasadena - Our office is up and running since our “visitors” left our
Pasadena office building at 600 N. Rosemead Blvd. The two black
bears – a mom and cub - must have seen our recent email alert and
just wanted to make sure our office would do a fair representation of
both sides of the issue at our bear safety event Thurs, Oct. 23rd at
7pm at the Monrovia Public Library.

“I was shocked, but not surprised that bears were combing through
the trash,” said Assemblymember Holden. “Working with the
Monrovia Police Department and the California Department of Fish
and Wildlife I have organized a public safety forum to discuss safety
measures when living near wildlife. Find out what to do when you
find a bear in your backyard and how to bear-proof your property.
Today’s events show that your backyard can be inviting no matter
where you are.”

What: Bears in your Backyard Public Safety Forum

When: Thursday, October 23 at 7pm
