GREETINGS from Mayor John Capoccia My best wishes to all as wecelebrate Independence Day! Sierra Madre always does it ingrand style - our Fourth of Julyparade and celebrations are second to none in participation and enthusiasm! Let’s take a minute to reflect on the momentous occasion which we’re celebrating. Perusing the internet, I found the following on the PBSwebsite - It’s an excerpt from thelast letter ever written by Thomas Jefferson, the great visionary and founding father who drafted theDeclaration of Independence. Jefferson’s remarks were written on the eve of the 50th anniversaryof the birth of our nation: “May it be to the world, what I believe it will be ... the signal of arousing men to burst the chains ... and to assume the blessings and security of self-government. That form, which we have substituted, restores the free right to the unbounded exercise of reason andfreedom of opinion. All eyes are opened, or opening, to the rights of man. ...For ourselves, let the annual return of this day foreverrefresh our recollections of these rights, and an undiminished devotion to them.” With that, let’s connect with our neighbors, our fellow citizens, andcelebrate the 239th anniversary of the greatest nation in the historyof mankind and revel in it’s incredible accomplishments. Let’s be thankful that we live in such a country, and a very special city, SierraMadre, the “Village of the Foothills”. Happy 4th to all! -John REMEMBER TO CONSERVE, CONSERVE, CONSERVE! Penalties for overuse will be enforced effective July 1st. Governor Brown’s April Executive Order requiring a statewide water conservation of 25% is now in full force and effect.
