National Night Out is an annual community- building campaign that promotes police- community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live. National Night Out enhances the relationshipbetween neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a truesense of community. Unlike previous years when the SMPD hosted this event inMemorial Park, we’ve found that other cities have been able to reach out to their communities more effectively by going to NeighborhoodWatch (NW) block parties or individual parties throughout theircities. It is our intention this year to visit the NW block parties orindividual parties. As we schedule the Department’s events forthe evening, we need to know who will be participating. If you arescheduling a block party, let us know and we’ll coordinate with thecity in providing barricades if necessary. We will have representatives from the department stop by tosay hello, no presentations, just pass out a few goodies and answerquestions if you like. I’ve listed a few points to remember when yourespond. On July 3rd a beer garden was created in Memorial Park so residents and friends could greet each other, children could enjoy the kids fun zone as well as stomp on bubble wrap, while Groovy Lemon Pie played music to fill the air. However, the Sierra Madre Civic Club was hard at work selling their confetti eggs for another year’s fun on the fourth! Given I saw confetti everywhere I went today, the kids had loads of fun. Many purchased eggs at Memorial park on Monday from 5-9ish, while others waited to buy on the fourth of July at Sierra Vista Park after the parade. All I know is the town is covered in confetti. Good job kids !!!….. On the right: Carol Cerrina, Debbie Pock, Shirley Wolff, Susan Gallagher and Sandy Siroganian. COOL SUMMER LIBRARY FUN FOR ADULTS Spot Sierra Madre in the movies.
