SATURDAY, JANUARY 20, 2024 VOLUME 18 NO. 03VOLUME 18 NO. 03 YOUR CITY COUNCIL AT WORK: MAYOR APPOINTS VOTING DELEGATES AND LIAISONS TO REPRESENT SIERRA MADRE By Kevin McGuire On Tuesday, January 9, the City Council approved liaisons and voting delegates ready to serve on boards, commissions, and associations. Voting delegates to the San Gabriel Valley Council of Governments, League of California Cities, and the Southern California Associations of Governments were approved during the first City Council meeting of the New Year. These appointments are necessary to allow the City Council to have mutual communication with various commissions, boards, and associations to make sure the Sierra Madre community is represented in regional public policy talks. Responsibilities for these liaisons/delegates will include attending meetings of these various groups and communicating the discussions and any actions taken during the assemblies back to the City Council. Alternative liaisons were also appointed. All appointments are for one year and are traditionally approved by the mayor. This year, the honor goes to the new mayor of Sierra Madre, Kelly Kriebs. And here are the liaisons/delegates. Appointments of delegates for the San Gabriel Valley Council of Governments, League of California Cities, and the Southern California Associations of Governments required approvement through Resolutions 24-06, 24-07, and 24-8, respectfully. All received unanimous approval. BE A FLOAT DESIGNER . . . CONTRIBUTE A DESIGN FOR THE 2025 SIERRA MADRE ROSE FLOAT THEME: BEST DAY EVER! Each year the Sierra Madre Rose Float Assoc. holds a contact to choose a design for our next float. Anyone can submit a black & white pencil or pen concept drawing on our submission form, along with a description. The 2024 Theme is: "The Best Day Ever" and according to newly elected Tournament of Roses Chair Ed Morales, “The 2025 theme celebrates life’s best moments – those unexpected times that bring a smile, warm our hearts and fill us with joy,” (Full story pn page 5) This year’s design contest will be held until Friday, February 9th, 2024 at 5:00 p.m. Please visit our website www.SierraMadreRoseFloat.org/get-involved/volunteer/design for additional info, rules and guidelines.. MORE HONOREES FOR ANNUAL DINNER NAMED The City of Sierra Madre has announced that 4 additional persons will also recieve recognition for their outstanding contributions to Sierra Madre at the Honors Dinner on January 24th. They are: Employee of the Year Satnam Rait Exemplary Employee Of The Year Jennifer Peterson Chelsea Lee The George Maurer Lifetime Achievement Award will be bestowed on longtime volunteer Diane Sands. The event is an annual joint effort by the City and the Chamber of Commerce.
