GRAND MARSHALS AND
HOMETOWN HERO ANNOUNCED

The Sierra Madre
Events Committee and
City of Sierra Madre
are proud to announce
Colleen McKernan and
Kevin Drolet as the
2026 Grand Marshals of
the Sierra Madre 4th of
July Parade.

For decades, Colleen
and Kevin have
exemplified the
very best of Sierra
Madre’s community
spirit through their
tireless volunteerism,
leadership, and
unwavering dedication.
Together, they have
supported countless
local organizations and
events, always steppingforward with generosity
and enthusiasm.
Colleen’s extensive service includes leadership roles in Sierra Madre
Little League, where she served as President, as well as the Sierra Madre
Civic Club, where she held two terms as President. Her involvement
spans St. Rita Parish, the Sierra Madre Community Foundation, Relayfor Life, and numerous other community initiatives. She is also the
founder of The Spero Foundation and co-owner of a local business,
further deepening her commitment to serving others.

Kevin has been equally devoted, contributing his time as a Kiwanis Club
member, a Bailey Canyon docent, and a steady volunteer at community
events throughout the years.

Together, Colleen and Kevin represent the heart and soul of Sierra
Madre—neighbors who show up, give back, and help make this town
such a special place to live. Their impact is felt across generations, and
their dedication has strengthened the traditions we celebrate today.

We are honored to recognize them as our 2026 Grand Marshals.

HOMETOWN HERO – ROB STOCKLY

Further, the Sierra Madre
Events Committee is
honored to recognize
Rob Stockly as the 2026
Hometown Hero. A lifelong
champion of Sierra Madre,
Rob’s contributions to the
community span more
than three decades. His
leadership, vision, and
dedication have played a
vital role in shaping and
supporting many of the
institutions that make Sierra
Madre thrive.

As Chair of the Sierra
Madre Library Foundation,
Rob has been instrumental
in revitalizing the
organization and leading
critical fundraising efforts,
including those supporting
the long-awaited new
library. His commitment to the library reflects a deep belief in
community, education, and shared spaces.

Rob’s service extends far beyond the library, however. He has served
as Mayor, Community Service Commissioner, Mt. Wilson Trail Race
Chair and Committee member, a Library Trustee, and an active member
of numerous local organizations, including Rotary and the Sierra
Madre Community Foundation. Whether through civic leadership,
volunteer service, or community engagement, Rob consistently “walks
the walk” in his dedication to Sierra Madre. His passion, perseverance,
and generosity of time and spirit embody what it means to be a true
Hometown Hero.

We proudly celebrate Rob Stockly for his lasting impact and continued
commitment to the Sierra Madre community.

After the rebuilding of the Mount Wilson Trail within 17 months of
the Eaton Fire, the Mount Wilson Trail Race (MWTR) roared back to
life, welcoming runners, families, friends, and spectators to celebrate
resilience with renewed energy and pride. The return of the Mount
Wilson Trail Race was less about a single winner and more about
reclaiming a tradition that connects people to each other and to the
mountain itself. This year's MWTR showcased the incredible strength of
our community, united by care, passion, dedication, and determination.

From beginning to end, last Saturday’s 2026 Mount Wilson Trail Race
was a triumph, with 328 runners at the start and cool weather perfect for
running. All participants raved about the excellent trail conditions, the
organization, the hard work done behind the scenes, and the positive
vibe surrounding the day’s activities. It was a wonderful day with eager
runners, excited children, and enthusiastic supporters, a day that
brought together the entire greater Sierra Madre running community
and community at large.
Sierra Madre VFW Post 3208 proudly presented the colors and Maggie
Moran of Chantry Flat’s Adams Pack Station sang the National Anthem
beautifully. Serving as this year’s MWTR starter was Coach Simon
Cooper, who has been leading the MWTR Training Program for many
years.

A total of 325 runners completed the grueling 8.6-mile course that
began in Kersting Court, up Baldwin Ave., to Mira Monte Ave., to
Orchard Camp and back (a total elevation gain of over 2,160 feet. The
runners were cheered on by enthusiastic family, friends, children, and
supporters. All race participants finished safely with smiles on their
faces.

The 2026 Mount Wilson Trail Race Awards Ceremony was announced
by MWTR Director Pete Siberell. City of Sierra Madre Mayor Kris
Lowe was on hand to present beautiful race print awards to all of the
category winners. Results on page2

SIERRA MADRE’S VFW HONORS
VETERANS AT PIONEER CEMETERY

By Mandy Tzoc Rodriguez/MVN

On Memorial Day, Sierra Madre’s
Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW)
Post 3208 hosted their annual
Memorial Day Observance
ceremony at Pioneer Cemetery,
honoring veterans who passed away
while serving in the United States
Armed Forces.

Many veterans, families and
community members were in the audience to recognize veteran efforts.
Alongside them, the local Boy Scouts of America troop and staffrepresentatives for Congresswoman Judy Chu and Assemblymember
John Harabedian were in attendance. During the ceremony, patriotic
anthems were sung and various speakers commemorated the sacrifices
and difficulties veterans experienced through war.

“Memorial Day is a powerfully emotional day, and one heavily fraught
with matters of conscience. Sometimes it’s
almost a cliche to hear something rendered
or referred to as a matter of life and death, but
that is precisely what I think Memorial Day is
all about. Our lives and our service member’s
deaths,” said Senior Vice Commander of Post
3209, Dr. Harold “Doc” Martin.

In memoriam, the ceremony recognized the
members of Post 3208 who had passed with a
roll call presented by Senior Vice Commander
Martin. As the roll call was announced, Martin
recognized the Post’s remaining World War
II veteran, Ken Anhalt, who passed awayin March 2026, shy of his 103 birthday. The
ceremony, followed with the Missing in Action
(MIA) and Prisoners of War (POW) service,
featuring a dining table being set with each
piece representing veterans who are MIA or
POW. Followed by the service, the memorial
concluded with the Volley of Rifles and lunch
provided by Post 3208.
