ARCADIA POLICE BLOTTER
TENNIS CHAMP WILANDER IN ARCADIA
For the period of Sunday, December 16th, through Saturday, December 22nd, the Police Department
responded to 1096 calls for service of which 166 required formal investigations. The following is a summary
report of the major incidents handled by the Department during this period.
Sunday, December 16:
1. At approximately 7:05 p.m., officers responded to Westfield Shopping Town, 400 S. Baldwin
Avenue, regarding a male suspect using counterfeit money. Investigation revealed the suspect was in
possession of over 30 counterfeit bills. A records check and a consensual search of the suspect revealed
the suspect was also in possession of heroin, and had a warrant out for his arrest. The 41-year-old,
Hispanic male was arrested for commercial burglary, possession of narcotics, and for having an
outstanding warrant.
2. Around 7:24 p.m., an officer responded to Sport Chalet at Westfield Shopping Town, 400 S.
Baldwin Avenue, regarding a juvenile male subject in custody for theft. Upon arrival of the subject’s
father, the father yelled at his son, and punched him in the face. The 55-year-old, Hispanic male was
consequently arrested for battery and transported to Arcadia City Jail for booking.
Monday, December 17:
3. At about 6:45 a.m., officers responded Highland Oaks Elementary School, 10 Virginia Road,
regarding vandalism. Investigation revealed that suspect(s) smashed a window to the teachers’ lounge,
and vandalized one of the walls with black paint. No other damage was found, and no property was
missing.
4. At approximately 8:35 a.m., an officer responded to Ann Karen Day Spa, 1215 S. Baldwin
Avenue, regarding a commercial burglary. Surveillance footage revealed the male suspect broke the
front glass door, entered the location, and stole the cash register before fleeing the scene. The suspect
had curly hair, and was wearing dark clothing and gloves.
Tuesday, December 18:
5. Around 8:18 a.m., officers were dispatched to Par 3 Golf Course, 620 E. Live Oak Avenue, in
regard to theft. Investigation revealed that several range mats, golf bag racks, a golf club washer and
a garbage can had been stolen. There were no signs of the suspect(s) in the area, and there were no
surveillance cameras or witnesses.
6. At approximately 9:09 p.m., officers responded to the 200 block of Vaquero Road in reference to
a residential burglary. Officers discovered the suspect(s) entered the home through a broken bedroom
window. Further investigation revealed the bedrooms were ransacked and several pieces of jewelry were
stolen. There were no witnesses or surveillance cameras.
Wednesday, December 19:
7. Around 5:12 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 1700 block of Orangewood Lane regarding
a residential burglary. Investigation revealed that the suspect(s) entered through an unlocked sliding
door, ransacked the bedrooms, stole several pieces of jewelry, a laptop, and a cell phone. There were no
surveillance cameras or signs of the suspect(s) in the area.
8. At about 11:10 p.m., officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for a missing front license plate
in the area of E. Duarte Road near Santa Anita Avenue. During their investigation, officers discovered
the driver was under the influence of alcohol. The 41-year-old, White male was subsequently arrested
for drunk driving and transported to the Arcadia City Jail for processing.
Thursday, December 20:
9. Around 9:52 a.m., officers responded to Westfield Shopping Town, 400 S. Baldwin Avenue,
regarding a suspicious package. Upon arrival, a safety perimeter was established. Investigation
revealed the package contained marijuana. No suspect(s) were arrested and there were no injuries to
officers or bystanders.
10. Shortly after 12:05 p.m., officers were dispatched to Arcadia High School, 180 Campus Drive,
in reference to a male student making threats about killing his teacher, parents, and himself. Based
in the suspect’s mental state of mind and on his violent behavior directed at his teacher and parents,
officers determined the suspect was a danger to himself and others. The 16-year-old, Asian male was
transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital and placed on a 72-hour evaluation.
Friday, December 21:
11. At about 9:19 p.m., an officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for driving with a shredded,
driver’s side front tire in the area of Huntington Drive and Second Avenue. Upon pulling the vehicle
over, the driver exited the vehicle and fell to the ground. Investigation revealed the driver was under the
influence of alcohol. The 36-year-old, Hispanic male was subsequently arrested for drunk driving and
transported to the Arcadia City Jail for processing.
12. At approximately 10:48 p.m., officers responded to the 300 block of N. Old Ranch Road
regarding a loud explosion. During their investigation, officers discovered a detonated, homemade pipe
bomb in the bushes in the area. There were no injuries or property damage, and no suspects were seen
or heard during the incident.
Saturday, December 22:
13. Around 10:45 a.m., an officer responded to the 1000 block of W. Huntington Drive regarding
a commercial burglary. Investigation revealed that suspect(s) forced opened a door leading into the
community laundry room, pried open two coin vaults on laundry machines, and stole an unknown
amount of coins. No suspects were seen or heard during the incident.
14. At about 4:38 p.m., officers was dispatched to Westfield Shopping Town, 400 S. Baldwin Avenue,
regarding a male suspect flashing gang signs at mall patrons. The suspect fled from mall security by foot,
and was subsequently located and detained by officers. A records check revealed the suspect was wanted
by Monrovia Police. The 19-year-old, Black male was arrested, transported to the Arcadia City Jail for
booking, and later released to Monrovia officers.
