WALKING SIERRA MADRE……THE SOCIAL SIDE

By Deanne Davis

“Hot Dogs, red vines and potato chips are my favorite foods.” Betty White – whose birthday was January
17, 1922. If Betty White loves hot dogs, how bad can they be!

There’s new things goin’ on in town,
including hot dogs! You know,
some days are so pleasant, so perfect
that we want to stay outside all day
and just enjoy. OK, I know, we’ve all
got stuff we need to be doing, but
walking Sierra Madre today is so
full of surprises and new enterprises
that we, my excellent walking
partner and superlative spouse,
John, were astonished! You would
have been, too.

Walking down Baldwin, noticing
dark pink camellias on the Gooden
School bushes. Their vegetable
garden looks amazing, too, some
great looking lettuce and Swiss
chard. Not so sure their wisteria is
going to make it, though. Sorry to
see that The Yellow Bus didn’t make

it either. We want to see success on every side here in town.

There’s a new restaurant moving into where Mountain View Sushi was for several years. Coming
in February: Vicious Dogs! Every kind of hot dog imaginable! Look at this: “Sweet & Spicy (Our
Signature) 1/3 lb. Kielbasa link with house-made sweet and spicy chili glaze topped with grilled
onions and peppers on a poppy seed bun, or, The Green Hornet, a Louisiana Link with house-made
spicy habenero green sauce, melted Monterey jack cheese and guacamole. Very Spicy!” There are
dozens more, including the peanut butter dog! Can’t wait till February! There’s another Vicious Dogs
in North Hollywood so we figure they’ve got all the kinks worked out and we’ll experience hot dogs
like we’ve never had before!

The Vibrant Living Wellness Center (Dr. Tina’s column is on page 9 of this paper!), across from the
Sierra Madre Community Medical Group is up and running and just a couple of doors down from
them is Subway, Coming Soon! Hot dogs, Subway sandwiches, great health advice and that’s just
what’s going on on the south side of Sierra Madre Blvd.!
There’s a new computer place,
Foothill TEK, next door to Sierra
Madre Pizza, across from Sierra
Madre Congregational Church.
They’re open and ready to repair
your Mac, iPhone, iPod, iPad
and even your PC! Foothill TEK
can also help you with training,
data recovery, wired and wireless
networking and if you’ve ever
wanted to stand on top of your
computer with an ax in your hand,
as I have, you’ll be thrilled to know
we’ve got computer help right
downtown.

Still laughing…. Talked to my
Texas daughter yesterday who
said six-year old Jessie came in the
house from playing in the back
yard with her three year old sister, Emily, and said, “We’ve got a situation here!” Small people are
sometimes so unintentionally funny. Remember Art Linkletter and Bill Cosby hosting “Kids Say The
Darndest Things”….. they really do!

“If you have only one smile in you, give it to the people you love.” Maya Angelou
“All you need is love, but a little chocolate now and then doesn’t hurt.” Charles M. Schulz

Valentine’s Day is coming. There are romantic hearts in the windows at Leonora Moss and Savor the
Flavor. If you haven’t bought your card yet, you’ve still got time, but not forever!

I have a new book, Walking Sierra Madre friends!
“A Tablespoon of Love, A Tablespoon of Laughter.”
It’s available on CreateSpace at the following link: https://www.createspace.com/4561071 and also
on Amazon.com.

I’m thrilled to report that you guys are buying it and, I hope, enjoying it! Thank you!
