Sierra Madre Police Blotter 

Wednesday February 19, 2014At 9:14 am, Sierra Madre Police responded to the 300 block of N Baldwin Ave. regarding a burglary 
report. Resident advised she left her residence in the early morning hours and when she returned 
home, she found her rear door was wide open. Resident stated her home was ransacked but nothing 
appeared to be missing. 

At 3:10 pm, Sierra Madre Police responded to a traffic collision that occurred at Michillinda Ave. and 
Mariposa Av. Vehicle one was traveling south bound on Michillinda Ave. and collided with another 
vehicle that was making a left turn into La Salle parking lot. No injuries reported. 

Thursday February 20, 2014At 8:08 am, reporting party came into the Sierra Madre Police Department regarding, identity theft. 
Reporting party was notified by her credit card company of suspicious activity on her account, and 
she immediately reported the incident to Sierra Madre Police Department. Case has been forwarded 
to the Detective Bureau for further investigation. 


SIERRA MADRE LIBRARY PROGRAMS 

SATURDAY DIGITAL STORYBOARD TOURS BY TEEN DOCENTS 

Take a journey back in time to an earlier Sierra Madre with Digital Storyboard Tours given by Teen 
History Docents. 

• 3/1 at 1:30 p.m. spotlighting three chapters of Sierra Madre history Saturday, at the Library
• 3/15 at 11:10 a.m. Wistaria-themed, at the Richardson House 
• 3/15 at 1:30 p.m. and 2:15 p.m. Wistaria-themed, at the Library
• 3/22 at 1:30 spotlighting three chapters of Sierra Madre history Saturday, at the Library
• 3/29 at 11:10 a.m. spotlighting three chapters of Sierra Madre history, at the Richardson 
House 
Teens interested in local history can join the growing group of volunteer history docents at the Library. 
Teens train and give tours using the Digital Storyboards at the Library’s Local History Room 
and at the Richardson House museum. See the Library’s website or stop by the Library to pick up an 
application.

Stop by on Saturday, March 1, at 10:00 a.m. and Tuesday, March 4, at 7:00 p.m. for help with downloading 
free eBooks to your eReader. Learn how to download free eBooks from the Sierra Madre 
Public Library to your Kindle, iPad, Nook or other device. Library staff will show you how to download 
free books from the Library’s Overdrive service and will include a demonstration and individual 
hands-on practice. If possible, bring your own e-reader. 

Explore your family history with Ancestry.com at the Library. Staff will be happy to show you how to 
use the database. You can access Ancestry.com in the library only and need a current Sierra Madre 
Library Card. 

TITLES TO GO 

Sierra Madre Public Library’s homebound program brings the Library to you. A volunteer from the 
homebound program will help you select books and will deliver them. Choose regular or large print,
fiction or non-fiction, audio books on CD and Playaways. Enrollment is free, but you must be a resident

JOIN YOUR NEIGHBORS AT SIERRA MADRE’S VILLAGE 
CHURCH OF THE ASCENSION FOR LENT 

The season of Lent lasts approximately 46 days, including Sundays, between Ash Wednesday and Easter 
Sunday. Since its founding in 1885, Ascension and other churches in the Sierra Madre communityhave gathered to observe the weeks prior to Easter as a special time for prayer and meditation about 
their Christian discipleship. 

Lent officially starts with Ash Wednesday, a day of penitence and reflection. At Ascension, Ash 
Wednesday Mass and Imposition of Ashes will be held on March 5, 2014 at 7:00 am, Noon, and 6:00 
pm. All are welcome.

WISTARIA FESTIVAL 

The United States Postal Service and the Sierra 
Madre Chamber of Commerce announce a special 
postal cancellation to celebrate The Sierra 
Madre Wistaria Festival. 

This special postmark will be available at the Sierra 
Madre Wistaria Festival, Sunday March 16, 
2014 at the Wistaria Festival Postal Station located 
at Kersting Court in Sierra Madre at Sierra 
Madre Boulevard and Baldwin Avenue. 

This special temporary postal station will be open 
11 A.M. to 3 P.M. 


Bring post cards or letters. You can send mail 
and post from this special event post office and 
surprise your friends when they receive mail 
with this extraordinary postmark. 

The announcement of this postal cancellation has 
been printed in the U. S. Postal Bulletin which is 
distributed world wide. To accommodate collectors 
from out of the area the Sierra Madre Post 
Office will cancel postcards and letters upon request 
with the Wistaria cancellation for 30 days 
after the event. 
To postmark a letter after the event go to Sierra Madre Post office and request The Wistaria Postmark 
on your mail.
