2016 HUCK FINN FISHING 

DERBY AND CAMPOUT

Sierra Madre, CA. – March 30, 2016 - Get ready to cast your lines at the annual 
Huck Finn Fishing Derby and Campout taking place this April. The weekend-
long event gives youth and families an opportunity to enjoy a taste of the outdoors 
in a friendly environment close to home. The City of Sierra Madre Community 
Services Department will host the popular Huck Finn event at the City’s holding 
basins. The action starts on Friday, April 8th with a campout complete with 
s’more roast and is followed by fishing events held April 9-10.

Campout – Friday, April 8

Campers will enjoy a night sleeping under the stars and have convenient access 
to the fishing grounds when the Derby begins at 7:00AM the next morning. 
Evening activities include campfire s’more roast, wilderness demonstrations and 
stargazing. Campsites are limited and available on a first come, first served basis. 
Advanced registration is required along with a registration fee of $58. The fee 
includes campsite accommodation for up to six persons, Fishing Derby entry for 
up to four youths and re-entry to Saturday’s Family Fishing event.

Fishing Derby – Saturday, April 9

The Fishing Derby runs from 7:00 – 11:30AM and is open to youth participants, 
ages 3-15. Anglers of all skill levels are welcome to participate. Experienced 
fishing guides will be on hand to provide assistance to participants new to the 
sport or those seeking to hone their skills. Food will also be available for purchase 
from the Sierra Madre Kiwanis Club. Derby registration is $12 per individual. 
Event registration will only be accepted the morning of the event at the entrance 
located next to Dapper Field in Sierra Vista Park.

Family Fishing – Saturday, April 9 and Sunday, April 10

Open to youth and their families, Family Fishing runs from 12:30 – 4:00PM on 
Saturday and from 7:00AM – 4:00PM on Sunday. Fishing licenses are not required 
to participate. Registration is $22 for a family of four or $12 per individual. The 
entrance to the event is located next to Dapper Field in Sierra Vista Park.

 The Huck Finn Fishing Derby and Campout is one of Sierra Madre’s 
most popular events. Hosted by the City’s Community Services Department, 
additional support for this year’s event is made possible through donations from: 
the Issei Foundation, Sierra Madre Women’s Club, Buccaneer Lounge, Sierra 
Madre Community Foundation, and Sierra Madre Civic Club. 

 Campsite registration for the Huck Finn Campout is open now. Please deliver 
applicable forms and fees in person to the Community Services Office (232 W. 
Sierra Madre Blvd.) between the hours of 7:30AM and 5:30PM, Monday through

1630 AM EMERGENCY RADIO & 

Free on-air publicity for local events

 Sierra Madre’s EMERGENCY radio station is now accepting scripts for 
Public Service Announcements (PSAs) about community events. PSAs 
will be broadcast on the air at no charge. The station operates 24/7 and 
can be heard at 1630 on the AM dial.

 Any local non-profit or non-commercial organization can have their 
event information broadcast to the public on Sierra Madre Community 
Information Radio. The station covers the city of Sierra Madre, plus 
surrounding areas of Pasadena, Arcadia, and Monrovia. 

Your event must:

• Benefit a non-commercial or non-profit entity
• Be open to the public
• Be of general interest to local citizens


Just 
write a Public Service Announcement that describes your event and 
e-mail it to radio@cityofsierramadre.com.

SIERRA MADRE COMMISSION AND BOARD VACANCIES 

 The City encourages its residents to apply for positions on City commissions and boards. This is a great opportunity for Sierra Madre 
residents to get involved in the community.

 There are six commissioners or board members that will complete their terms on June 30, 2015; leaving vacancies. Applications for 
these commissions or boards are available at City Hall or on the City’s website at www.cityofsierramadre.com. Completed applications 
should be submitted to the City Manager’s Office at City Hall.
