TO STATE HOUSING LAWS AFFECTING SECOND UNITS 
(“ACCESSORY DWELLING UNITS,” “ADU”) 
2. MUNICIPAL CODE TEXT AMENDMENT – ORDINANCE 
CLEAN-UP 
Applicant: City of Sierra Madre 
Project Location: Properties in the City of Sierra Madre, County of Los Angeles,
State of California 
1. On May 24, 2022 the City Council of the City of Sierra Madre conducted a 
second reading, adopting Ordinance No. 1454, amending Chapter 17.08 (Definitions),
Chapter 17.22 (Second Units) in its entirety, and Chapter 17.28 (R-3 Medium/HighDensity Residential Zone) of the Sierra Madre Municipal Code.
The purpose of this Ordinance is to establish objective design and development stan-
dards to promote the development of housing under Senate Bill 13 (SB 13), AssemblyBill 68 (AB 68), Assembly Bill 881 (AB 881) and to implement the 2021-2029 HousingElement objective to update the ADU Ordinance. 
2. On May 24, 2022 the City Council of the City of Sierra Madre conducted a sec-
ond reading, adopting Ordinance No. 1455, amending Chapters 17.20 (R-1 One-familyResidential), 17.28 (R-3 Medium/High Density Residential Zone), 17.40 (M Manufac-
turing Zone), 17.48 (Development Standards), 17.52 (H Hillside Management Zone),
and 17.60 (Variances and Discretionary Permits) of the Sierra Madre Municipal Code.
The purpose of this Ordinance is to address those parts of the Sierra Madre MunicipalCode which are ambiguous, unclear, and inconsistent with other related parts of theCode. The Ordinance would also provide relief for several development standards.
This summary is published pursuant to Government Code Section 36933(c)(1) and afull and complete certified copy of the text of Ordinance Nos. 1454 and 1455 is avail-
able at the Sierra Madre City Manager’s Office located at City of Sierra Madre City Hall,
232 W. Sierra Madre Blvd., Sierra Madre, CA. Ordinance Nos. 1454 and 1455 becomeeffective on June 23, 2022. For further information on this subject, please contact thePlanning and Community Preservation Department at (626) 355-7138. 
ENVIRONMENTAL DETERMINATION: Pursuant to Public Resources Code section 
15061, subdivision (b)(3), this proposed ordinance is exempt because it is not a “proj-
ect” for purposes of Public Resources Code section 21065 and section 15378 of title 14 
of the California Code of Regulations. This ordinance is a ministerial action to estab-
lish conformance with State law and has no direct or indirect physical impact on the 
environment. 
APPEAL: If in the future anyone wishes to challenge the decision of the City Council in 
court, one may be limited to raising the issues that were raised or presented in written 
correspondence delivered to the City Council at, or before, the scheduled public hearing.

PROGRAM 


The Mount Wilson Trail Race will kick off the city's Wellness Program.

Spring is here and summer is just around the corner! And, things are 
finally getting back to normal. Everywhere you look you see Sierra 
Madreans enjoying the outdoors. Walking, Running, Hiking, enjoyinglife naturally. 

To that end, the City is partnering with local businesses and community 
groups to offer residents a chance to get out and enjoy wellness opportunities 
within our commUNITY. 

The program will run from Memorial Day to Labor Day and will kick-off 
with the Mt. Wilson Trail Race on May 28. 

Activities include: (partial listing): 

HIKE WITH THE FIRE CHIEF: 

June 3 6am – 9am 
Get to know Fire Chief Brent Bartlett while also hiking through one of the 
City's iconic trails: Mt Wilson Trail! Be sure to bring water and snacks as 
this should be a longer hike. Participants should meet at Mt. Wilson Trail 
Gate promptly at 6AM. 

YOGA WITH COUNCIL MEMBER KELLY KRIEBS & KULE YOGA 
& AYURVEDA: 

June 24, 2022 8:30 – 9:30 
Come out for a morning yoga class with Council Member Kelly Kriebs
