THE REEL DEAL: by Ben Show
SAN ANDREAS REVIEW
Disaster movies are a dime-a-dozen. They are generally seen as
predicable, poorly-written, and sloppily acted messes of movies.
Does ‘San Andreas’ have any hope of changing this perception? Can
Dwayne Johnson save the genre or does this earthquake-disaster
film have too many faults?
Ray (Dwayne Johnson) is trying to survive not only his job as
a helicopter rescuer, but his family’s recent end. His wife, Emma
(Carla Gugino) has moved on with her new, architect boyfriend,
and his daughter, Blake (Alexandra Daddario) is going off to
college; however, recent events spurring from the San Andreas fault
line have begun to change not only their lives, but the entirety of
California.
‘San Andreas’ is an evolved disaster film. Both its plot and
characters are complex, and the dialogue is one of the movies
strongest aspects. The chemistry between the cast makes the movie
very believable, more believable than most other disaster films. ‘San
Andreas’ is a successful action-disaster movie that deserves to be
seen and will hopefully become a classic for the genre.
