GREEN FLAG ALERT - Details below

WISTARIA FESTIVAL NEXT SUNDAY, MARCH 25TH

SATURDAY, MARCH 17, 2012

VOLUME 6 NO. 11

CANDIDATE FORUMS DOMINATE CALENDAR

SIERRA MADRE ELECTION
COVERAGE

On April 10, 2012, voters in Sierra Madre will go to the
polls and select three people from a field of seven to sit
on the City Council and elect a new City Treasurer and
City Clerk. They will also vote on a local ballot measure
on whether or not to extend the User Utility Tax and a
related advisory measure.

The city council race will fill two seats for new four year terms and one seat for the
unexpired two year term vacated by former Mayor Joe Mosca.

The Mountain Views News will provide our readers with comprehensive coverage of
this election. Each week, as we have done in the past, we will profile the candidates and
give each of the candidates the opportunity to introduce themselves to our readers by
answering the following questions: (All candidates are being asked to answer the same
questions)

1. Why are you running for Office?

2. What are your plans if elected?

The revised schedule:

THIS WEEK: Candidate Colin Braudrick for City Council - 2 year term-Below

March 24th Candidate Chris Koerber for City Council - 2 year term

 Website: www.chrisforsierramadre.com

Camdidate Bill Tice for City Council - 4 year term

No website available at this time.

It is our sincere hope that each candidate will submit their answers so that we can share
them with our readers. A separate letter has been sent to each candidate asking them to
participate.

In addition to the candidate spotlights, we will attempt to cover the various forums
sponsored by local organizations. Where possible, the unedited video of these forums will
be broadcast on the paper’s website.

Our reporting on this election will be as fair and objective as possible. However, please
keep in mind that our columnists are always free to share their opinions. Their opinions
are their opinions and may or may not reflect the position of the paper. This is true in all
things, not just this election.

We will also provide for you the calendar of important dates regarding the election. It is
our goal to do whatever we can to help you make an informed decision on April 10, 2012.

Susan Henderson, Publisher and Editor

Candidates on the April 10th ballot in Sierra
Madre had a very busy week. Beginning on Sunday,
when VFW Lodge 3208 held the first Electon
Forum and ending on Thursday evening with a
‘Meet and Greet’ mixer at the Women’s Club, four
of the five candidates for city council told residents
why they should be elected to help govern the
town.

The questions and answers did not change much
at any of the events. Of tantamount importance to
residents were the city’s finances, the proposed Assisted
Living facility and the User Utility tax. All
candidates favored the proposed Assisted Living
facility pending approval by voters of the project
in November.

However, when it came to the User Utility Tax
Extension, Chris Koerber, Mary Ann MacGillivray
and John Capoccia were opposed while Colin
Braudrick, Gene Goss and John Harabedian were
in favor of the extension. In addition to Sunday’s
event, the Sierra Madre Kiwanis Club, pictured
above. held a forum on Tuesday afternoon, followed
by the Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday
evening. You can view the Kiwanis and Chamber
events online. Go to www.mtnviewsnews.com
for links to both events.

COLIN J. BRAUDRICK

I am a 16-year resident of Sierra Madre and
have raised my 12-year-old son here. I am
running for City Council because I want to
ensure that he has the same opportunity to
raise his kids in the amazing community as
I had. I treasure the feeling of raising my
family in “Mayberry” and I am committed
to protecting our unique village atmosphere.

I bring the experience, leadership, and vision
necessary to be your representative. I am a
15-year LAPD veteran, have an MBA, and
have sat on the Library Board of Trustees
and the Parks and Facilities Master Plan. I
am currently on the General Plan Steering
Committee (GPSC), where we are rewriting
a several hundred page document that is like
the constitution for Sierra Madre; setting
goals for land use, public safety, traffic,
wildlife, and natural disaster mitigation.
Being part of the GPSC has given me the
experience to be your council member and I
have voted time and time again to preserve
our community. I have also come up with
creative ideas, such as creating incentives to
preserve our historic homes when adding a
second residence in our R-2 zone.

I will work to establish common sense
oversight so we do not overburden
people who are doing the right thing but
unintentionally get captured in a costly
bureaucratic maze. I am not afraid to
address our City’s financial crisis and the
threat it poses to our community. I have
the vision and leadership to address today
the financial disaster we will face in 2015,
and the courage to support continuing
the Utility Users Tax. Also I will not
automatically raise your UUT rate to 12%,
but commit to vote to reduce it to the same
rate that it is at before the election.

GREEN FLAG ALERT

The City's state of emergency level is now at Stage One: GREEN FLAG—Activated
under a prediction of 80%—100% chance of precipitation. Affected residents should
get "READY" for potential evacuation. This includes keeping a close watch on
weather forecasts. Updates will also be issued on SMTV3 (Time Warner-channel 3),
the City’s website www.cityofsierramadre.com, the Sierra Madre Community Radio
(AM 1630), eblasts, and the City’s emergency blog (http://sierramadrepio/blogspot.
com).
